A young man who grew up without his father, and being the only line of defense between the suitors and his mother, and yet the moment he hugs his father, he's drawn smaller than he is normally. Like in that moment, all he is a little boy finally hugging his dad for the first time.

The style, especially past!Ody’s gremlin grin and goofy expressions threw me, and I didn’t like it. But having seen it again with you both, there is a lot that’s great about it. My favourite scene remains the same, however: when the woman in the courtyard below sees them on the wall above, lights up, and turns to point them out to her companion. It goes by so fast, but in just a few frames it shows that Odysseus’ people love him, and are loyal to him and his family. The suitors’ behavior notwithstanding, the people of Ithaca (in this animatic, at least) are happy to see him returned at last. It’s such a good little bit of storytelling that packs a huge story beat so effectively into a single moment. (Which is definitely Sofien’s strong suit—every frame of flashback packs a huge amount of story into a single moment with precision.)

2025-01-26 06:24:36 +0000 UTCI think the thing that get to me most on these re-listens is finally noticing certain musical details- this time, it was realizing that the melody line for Antinous' lines 'where in the hell is our pride and our rage,' and 'channel the fire inside of your souls,' is exactly the same as Ody's 'I am not letting you get in my way' from Mutiny. He was closer to being a much more human, and arguably much nastier, kind of monster than I ever realized on first watch...
