2024-10-28 17:00:11 +0000 UTCHearing Mortius talk about his cane and how he doesn't use it all the time made me tear up. Im young and already have bad arthritis and so there are days I need a cane. But my job is physically intensive sometimes and I can't unfortunately use it during shift due to the nature of the job, so it comes out before and after shift on those days. And people question it and give me weird looks cause I don't have it all the time and such. Not to mention the age thing. Thank you for bringing it up.

2024-10-16 07:38:45 +0000 UTCOn the whole age "limit" for disability thing, yes! People need to bog off with that! I've literally had people genuinely think that when my assistance dog was in training that she was for someone else because I'm "too young" to be disabled... It was amusing to correct them with "this one is fully trained and this one will be taking over in X time" and watching the realisation, I still get people asking if my now assistance dog is in training and if I'll miss her ect, small bit of satisfaction when I tell them she's not in training and that she's fully trained then they realise as I'm(often) walking off before they have a chance to try get invasive ect

2024-10-16 07:38:25 +0000 UTCThe seashell is most likely a reference to a very famous painting from the 1400s called "The Birth of Venus" made by Sandro Botticelli (Venus being Aphrodite's Roman version). As far as I know, the shell isn't really part of any mythology? But because of the painting, it's now associated with Aphrodite/Venus. The painting gets referenced in media fairly often actually, when you see the painting you might even think back to things you've seen and say "Oh that's what that was referencing!"

2024-10-15 23:52:45 +0000 UTCOmg disability rep! Thank you much Mortius! I’ve had my cane for barely a year so I’m still adjusting (especially since people don’t seem to understand that disability doesn’t really have an age limit), and it’s so nice to see someone else share their experience🫶🫶🫶🫶

2024-10-15 16:33:14 +0000 UTCI think the 'Aphrodite in a clam' is more of a Renaissance thing with inspo taken from the Birth Of Venus by Sandro Botticelli where she is depicted as washing ashore riding/standing on a clam shell
