Exactly how I felt about Abby. I did not care. I did not care about if she has a redemption arc. What’s done is done. Game players will fight to the death with back and forth with just show viewers about this. I know what happens in the game, but I’ve only watched the show. Season 1 was a whole season focusing primarily on Joel and Ellie and how their bond grows over the space of YEARS. I became invested in those characters. I loved the character of Joel. I was told by gameplayers I was “wrong” to love Joel’s character because he was a “bad man”……we’re living in post apocalyptic hell, you’ll mind a man a death or twelve doing what you need to to survive. Each to their own. Literally fight or die. The Dr was absolutely armed. So tired of hearing the schtick that he wasn’t. He had a scalpel about to cut into the closet thing to a daughter joel had had in years since Sarah died, and I can 100% tell you, as a parent, fuck everything else on the “maybe” that this cure “might” work….no one’s slicing into my kid. I’m standing on my hill, party of one of if I have to, but Joel was 100% right in saving Ellie and any parent worth a crap would say the same. The cure (which technically it wasn’t, it was a preventative measure to stop further spread, it couldn’t change people back), there were no guarantees it would work. The medical technology of the year the doctor was working in (I forget) technological advancement was much less so to create a synthetic pathogen to stop a foreign mutation…doubtful and from one girl? There wouldn’t be enough and who’s to say the fireflies would have even sent it to anyone outside their group. I just have no residual interest in season 3 or having a whole season devoted to a character I cannot empathize with. I’ve never understood the “yeah, she killed one of the most loved characters, but you’ll come around to loving her”. Guarantee you I won’t. I never have before. Joel killed her dad, point blank to the head. Abby tortured Joel and dragged it out where Ellie watched. Huge difference. Opinions are what make shows engaging and if people go on to watch season 3 and enjoy it, cool, but I know for a fact, the makers of the show have already said they’re changing the ending of the last episode of the last season, compared to the game, whichever season that may be. Season 1 was fantastic. Season 2 was misguided, muddled, they made Ellie weaker and softer, we had one badass moment and that was it. We didn’t need the whole Dina montage, that should have followed the game. She spent years with Joel. Act accordingly and look for vengeance for the man who treated you like you were his kid. It was all too little, too late.

2025-07-25 07:25:21 +0000 UTCEllie and Abby are supposed to be mirrors of each other, and the message isn’t about whose side you’re on but about the cycle of violence and revenge; However, this message was executed horribly. The show completely fumbles the message they’re trying to convey because they almost completely neuter Ellie in season 2. In the game Ellie damn near becomes a monster, which helps make the “You are no different than her” point come across way better; And I wish we got to see that. You never get that “Ellie I love you, but wtf are you doing??” feeling in the show that they expect people to have; So the entire time you just hate Abby regardless of her backstory. They also fumbled this by splitting the season; Cause now you’re expecting people who can’t stand Abby to watch a whole season of her being the main character after waiting for 2 years. They should’ve had Ellie and Abby’s storyline going in sync (with a longer season or longer episodes if necessary) with the finale being the complete theater scene. The one point I will give them is Dina. Dina told Ellie that if she left they were done, and Ellie chose vengeance over her family. That kinda goes into what Jessie was saying in this episode, too. It got to a point where Ellie lost the plot and she wasn’t avenging Joel for Joel’s sake, she was doing it for herself And y’all’s discussion about differences of opinion is top tier. I just had a back and forth recently that you guys spoke to perfectly. I can’t stand people that can’t just agree to disagree without trying to vilify someone when it’s not necessary
