I heard that too. Mike Flanagan said that was too cruel to the audience even for him, so they covered up the window in the back. I’m so glad they didn’t go that direction.

2025-01-24 12:04:18 +0000 UTCI am forever thankful that it was changed because it was such a beautiful ending showing them "out in the world", healing and with so much of this show being about the stages of grief and mental illness, to see healing was the perfect ending to such an amazing show.

2025-01-24 08:57:05 +0000 UTCFun fact..well..messed up fact, the ending wasn’t the original ending..the original ending was supposed be a plot twist where they’re actually still stuck in the red rooms illusion, the scene where they’re celebrating Luke’s sobriety the window from the red room was supposed to show in the the background shot implying that they actually never escaped….I think we can all agree that it was the right call they didn’t go with that😭 this family went through enough.

2025-01-24 06:45:05 +0000 UTCThe reveal of the red room when I watched it the first time blew me away. First you notice the window is the same in every version of the room. The room is always there. But it twists and becomes what each person needs in that moment. Like Nell said, it’s the stomach. It feeds off them. It became places of comfort for each person. So they would stay. The dad never had his own room because he never formed an attachment to the house, he was “immune” to it. The house drove the mom crazy and she died there, but the house wanted her to bring them back so it could feed from them again by killing them and keeping them forever, starting with Nell, making Olivia (mom) believe that being back in the house her children were safe and wouldn’t die in the ways the house had subconsciously shown her.
