Hey after rewatching this again (haven't seen in since I was a kid) I totally see all those connections. To the point where the whole look and feel of the Matrix is on display here. The dark lighting, the action shots, the music they chose... the Matrix was just a higher budget homage to this film. Also The Dark Knight and all of Nolan's Batman films had the same feel too. The scene you mentioned at the table, Ernie Hudson's character felt a lot like Gordon. Even some of the lines seemed taken from this film. "He does that alot" when Eric disappeared and the villain letting the girl go felt a bit like "poor choice of words" scene with the Joker. Wouldn't be surprised if both films and the filmmakers took a lot of inspiration from this film.

2024-08-24 16:46:45 +0000 UTCThose actually are in research cause in early stages of writing the film, years before filming the first matrix they had Brandon in mind of playing Neo, until he died then came a very long list of actors who were asked or considered for the role including Will Smith, until Keanu came on board, but believe whatever you want to believe 🤷🏽♂️

And his stand in was the director of the John Wick movies, Chad Stahelski, who was also his friend from martial arts school. Another few fun facts about Brandon was originally the first choice to play Neo in the Matrix and was Stan Lee considered him as the ideal person to Shang Chi back in the 90s.
