I've rewatched this series more times than I can count, but I wish I was watching it with fresh eyes again. This is why I love watching reactions.

I do feel like she's like this because of her father so the rants against her aren't that funny to me. But if they don't care about that then I get it. That's just me. 2024-03-24 21:24:46 +0000 UTC- I know that this is their first time watching the show. - I know the format of these videos. - No, I didn't feel this level of extreme vitriol towards Azula when I first watched the show, nor would I generalize the entire fandom's reaction to her one way or the other. - They're free to respond how they like to the show, but part of the appeal – for me and for many of the people here, judging by some of the other comments – of the way they respond to media is that they react wonderfully viscerally while also noting the deeper layers of the work and the motivations of the characters. They're able to both react and also to reflect in real time. That's not an easy balancing act, but they pull it off entertainingly and insightfully. They've had an excellent read on Zuko, for instance. I just think it's unfortunate that Azula is receiving so much more of the visceral side and less of the thoughtful side. I’m not being a scold or telling them how to do their thing. I’m expressing my hope that their approach to her balances out more in season three – otherwise, I worry they’ll miss out on the powerful impact of her character’s story in those upcoming episodes. - To be clear: I’m not looking for an argument. I wanted to clarify why I initially commented. I still very much enjoy these videos, or I wouldn't be here supporting them.

And I'm just being honest it does feel a bit over the top to see them hate a 14 year old character this much. Especially when they showed she's been groomed and favored by an evil parent. All the talk of torturing her and stuff hasn't been funny to me but maybe that's just me. Still enjoy their videos tho.

2024-03-24 03:48:47 +0000 UTCAs much as I enjoy watching you guys, and although I realize this was recorded some time ago, I feel I need to gently note again: Azula is cold, calculating, manipulative, vicious, cruel… and also canonically only fourteen years old. She's little more than a child. Does that excuse her actions? Absolutely not. She’s done evil things, she’s not shown any regret, and she needs to be stopped. And we know she was vile even when she was younger. But just remember who she had as a father. If Zuko had been born with the superior talent and shaped under his father's influence rather than his mother's, who's to say he wouldn't have turned out just as bad as Azula, or worse? And if Azula had received less of her father's attention and more of her mother’s, perhaps some tiny spark of decency in her could have been nurtured into something stronger and brighter. It’s easy and satisfying to dismiss her as simply being pure evil, but I think there’s room for a more nuanced view of her character, and perhaps the tiniest bit of empathy. There’s an element of tragedy in her being as warped as she is so early in life.
