Oh, well, there we go. It all comes together. I guess my main point is that 8 seasons were the endgame while 5 seasons isn't what they were really wanting.

2023-12-04 14:30:40 +0000 UTCYou're both correct. They had episodes in various phases of production going up through an intended season 8. Then the acquisition started rolling and they then had to make season 5 a makeshift series finale. So in that regard yes it was unexpected because they had three more seasons in active production before they had to cut it short at the fifth season but they knew going into that season it would be their last.

That's why Season 5 was setup the way it was and why it ended the way it did. He also talked about it on the Season 5 special features, but I have to re-watch that because I don't want to misinterpret what he said. Furthermore, I asked my colleagues at LucasFilm if they knew the show was going to be cancelled, and they said yes they knew because they knew the acquisition was happening.

2023-12-03 22:54:20 +0000 UTCFiloni has talked about it indirectly in an interview about Star Wars: Rebels. One of the big reasons Rebels was so shoddily put together at the beginning was because they were given short notice of needing to continue Star Wars animation in some capacity and their production budget was certainly lowered. The short way of putting it is that they suspected bad possibilities, but not a flat out cancellation with a demand for a new show on such short notice. If anything, part of the reason why they were able to do much of anything was because the idea of a rag tag group making their way through the Star Wars galaxy was something Filoni brought to Lucas earlier. He just got to put it into action later is all.

2023-12-03 21:55:50 +0000 UTC**FUN, BUT LONG COMMENT** I just saw y'alls Compendium for this show! You best be ready because every episode until the the very end of this run of the series hits HARD. (There is a weird one in season 7, but we don't talk about that one...) Also, I figured you guys would like some NON-SPOILER BEHIND-THE-SCENES TRIVIA for the show. I think it will enhance your experience! Check it out: -After George Lucas stepped down from Lucasfilm, this show was unexpectedly cancelled at season 5 by the new people. Not even the CREW producing this show knew it would go down like that! So watch those last two arcs with this in mind! -Originally, this show was completely planned to have EIGHT full seasons. All of it would've eventually lead into Lucas' version of how this tied into Revenge of The Sith. And, it's believed that the end of it would've helped lead the fandom into LUCAS' version of the Sequel Trilogy. -How are there 7 seasons then? Well,... the crew already had the first half of season 6 practically done, so they released it on Netflix as a special. It was on there up until Disney+ came out with their version of season 7. -In the end, there are technically FOUR unique series finales for this series. 1.) The finale of season FIVE. 2.) The finale halfway through the original season SIX on Netflix. 3.) The Disney +'s season SEVEN finale. 4.)
