Just saw in the last ep of M9 that you did these and came running. This is the exact type of stuff I need while waiting at work.

2026-03-09 13:11:07 +0000 UTCCalamity is the first (not chronologically mind you) of a trilogy of 4 part miniseries's that are dm'd by Brennan. All of them are stand alone from the campaigns so all are great watches. All have different players. Its near impossible to watch the live plays of the campaigns as it is just hundreds of hours of content. But these little miniseries are great ways to understand more about the world but also how D&D works. There are some great one shots as well (there is a really fun holiday one dm'd by Liam that I highly recommend for when christmas rolls around next year). I don't think the format is bad but I do think 30 minute increments is gonna be very hard for you to remember things. I'd say maybe 4 splits at around the hour mark? I dunno, workshop it maybe. I get that a 4 hour react is probably not viable. And even an even split is probably still a bit much. 4 might be the sweet spot. Just my 2 cents.

2026-01-21 19:47:30 +0000 UTCHello! I'm new here and signed up when I heard you were doing Calamity. Just some food for thought, feel free to ignore this, but with a long form show like this, I think trying to do 20 minute segments a couple times a week might be awkward... Unless you're taking very good notes yourself, you might struggle to recall details of what exactly is happening/has happened. This isn't a TV show that was produced for 30 or 45 minute episodes like CR's animated shows after all. These episodes are very long, but have their own intermission built into each of them because of that. Might be worth considering simply dividing the episodes into 2 for watching purposes, before intermission and after.

2026-01-20 19:06:00 +0000 UTCExcited to see this. I came at just the right time it seems. This is my favorite live content critical role ever produced.

2026-01-20 15:43:51 +0000 UTCBackground for the questions you asked at the end of the episode. None of this is spoilers, just some info which might help provide context. Zerxus is a paladin, which in a D&D sense, is not just a knight but one who has sworn an oath to uphold and embody an ideal. Usually that is something like an oath of redemption, or of vengeance, or devotion, etc. The oaths are sometimes sworn to a god but don’t always have to be. The Calamity takes place about a thousand(ish) years before the events of Vox Machina. The deities do indeed exist, and some of them even interact with the world on a regular basis. — Side note, I don’t mind the longer form content if you wanted to watch the entire episodes all at once, but I get it if you feel you need to break them up! Looking forward to your other reactions on this series!

2026-01-20 05:59:16 +0000 UTCI'M SO EXCITED. Calamity, in my opinion, is one of the best pieces of media made.

2026-01-20 02:02:38 +0000 UTCI get you wanting to split this up but I'm not gonna lie, I would binge the whole 4 hours with you if you recorded it. Split it for youtube! 🤣

2026-01-19 21:48:08 +0000 UTCFascinating to see people exploring this after starting with the two animated series Brennan’s DM style is unique, and very “cinematic” which I think lends itself to very easy transition for new fans. The classic way to start a campaign is just to have the party meet at a bar, which is how we met Vox Machina. This is a long established trope, mostly because it’s easy to get things rolling with everyone together. Brennan’s approach here is to start with one player and bounce around player by player, giving them a spotlight and weaving the world together as everyone goes. It feels like you’re watching a show. Just a stylistic thing, Zerxes is a familiar name, as is a couple Easter eggs. I’ll drop them below a spoiler bar in case you don’t want to know _____________________________________ Zerxes was the demon in hell that played cards with Pike. Of course, this miniseries is a thousand years before that episode, so…we’ll see what led to that The figure whose head is described as the sun was referred to (indirectly, i suppose) as the “Dawnfather”. In Vox Machina season 1, Percy describes the Suntree in Whitestone as “planted by the Dawnfather”. This is a deity worshipped by Whitestone and other parts of Exandria, representing the sun and all the life it brings.
