I really love the stuff with the little brother too. I can't say it any better than you, but shonen does really love its "continue on this one path no matter what", so it's nice to see something different. Also, as a note, I don't know if you completely skipped the credit roll or just cut it out, but there was some cool illustrations/animation of the "entertainment" district there that might be worth watching, not bc it's integral, but just bc it's pretty. Finally, I never noticed the mice; that's so funny.
