I really appreciate that you took the time to think about what message the movie was trying to get across, simple as it might be. To be honest I was also really surprised that the movie blew up as much as it did. I knew the story having read the Manga beforehand, but the movie really elevated it on every level (as the KnY Anime tends to do). But in the end I felt similar to you. I thought it was a really good movie, but not really groundbreaking in terms of storytelling or even in terms of production (even compared to other Ufotable movies). I guess sometimes the simplest but resonating message is needed to reach the most amount of people. Also somehow Ufotable managed to level up their production for the upcoming season 2 you're going to watch, so I can't wait to see your reactions and discussion for it.

The world was between shut downs from the Vid, Season 1 happened and everyone was talking about Episode 19, and Tanjiro and company are not the most complex of characters, but simplicity is NOT easy. Simplicity, in its greatest narrative form, is a deep understanding of your characters, your plot, and your world building. And a straight-forward, bright eyed hero like the majestic Kyojuro Rengoku is narrative simplicity at its finest. He truly lives like the next second could be his last on earth, but he doesn’t live morosely. He took his mother’s advice to live in the service of others so the two combined mark him as A HERO. It makes him an oddball, but his kindness and overwhelming charisma will make him unforgettable. So, the movie took off with an unforgettable true Hero, a story born from razor sharp simplicity and some good(?) timing.
