To my knowledge, all the performances are rotoscoped over either a real performance or mocapped CGI of a real performance. So I guess they're technically 2D, but tracing over a 3D object for every frame gives it a kinda weird pseudo-3D vibe that does tend to stand out as 'feeling weird' at times.
