86 Episode 22 Early Access

Just got internet back from hurricane Ian just in time to watch my favorite episode. This episode made me cry the first few times. Only other shows that did that to me is Violet Evergarden, Madoka Magica, and Your Lie In April.

Just imagine how Lena would feel, if the person who literally helped her survive and gave he the motivation to keep fighting, was suddenly saying “why fight? If you’re eager to die then you shouldn’t fight at all.”

When Shin said "it wouldnt be right if she caught up to me in this state", I hadn't even considered the angle that he wanted to be better for her. Honestly, I took it litterally that he didn't want the first time she sees him to be beat up and bleeding profusely. Although, your interpretation is probably better aha

One of my frustrations with how other reviewers saw this episode was complaining that it was treading the same emotional ground earlier episodes covered, as if trauma were something that magically could be solved in an episode. Teeaboo totally got what the writer was conveying and I salute him. If 86 does not animate any more of the light novels, I hope Teeaboo will consider reading them. I have been reading ahead and it has been totally worth the while to see these characters continue to grow and overcome the obstacles life has dealt them.

If you notice where Raiden was when he reconnects with Shin, he is sitting next to an upside-down Fido. Before Raiden'smech is destroyed you see Fido splitting off from it. The theory is that Raiden's mech was.on autopilot and he hopped aboard Fido thus escaping death.

There was a two part “Vet Reviews 86” on youtube, and he said how real the intersquad relationships felt to him. He “knew” several of the squaddies from soldiers he actually knew and he admitted that there were times the show felt too real. He said it was a very hard watch at times. I love all the character arcs, how they start, how they grow, how the relapse, how they recover. 86 quickly became one of my truly favorite shows (not just anime) over the past few years. And for Tee, who isn’t a crier, to admit he welled up several times truly shows the amazing level of this production.

As the viewer votes for what to watch were being held and 86 kept losing, I was practically screaming. This show is made for Teeaboo to review. It’s like the Monogatari series: layers upon layers to dissect and unravel and fall in love with because this show understands life. As someone who has battled depression and considered suicide, I get this. I’ve lived this. It grabs my heart. Wanting to make myself better to prove myself to someone I loved? Totally been there. I think people who are veterans and have faced war firsthand probably understand 86 in ways I can’t. This show needed Teeaboo to see it and I am glad he is becoming so passionate about it.

During Act 1 I was on the edge of my seat. The INTENSITY of the confrontation of Shin and his shadow was so powerful I barely breathed during those six minutes. Then Lena's arrival in Act 2 I was shocked.. tears were forming and then the PARA-Raid connected. When Shin raised his eyes in shocked recognition, I broke. God I cried. I cried the tears Shin couldn't in that scene. I totally get why Tee didn't like the narrative of the survivors, but god I needed it. At 4:25, the Shadow Shin, whom I think was voiced by BOTH Shouya Chiba and Ikumi Hasegawa, really hits HARD. We center the shot on Daiya, and the "Not even anyone to call out for you..." line.. FUCKING OUCH. Daiya had Anju, and who does Shin have? According to "The Reaper", no one. Damn, I would not be surprised if film studies people wrote BOOKS on those six minutes. It's that good. Later, as "The Reaper" mocks Shin even further, the scarf unties itself, flying away to leave to reveal it, like Rei, like Kiriya, like Kaie.. are all headless. The body falls away, leaving the head to spit more venom.
