We had metric tonnes of characterization here. Grethe's and Gen. Richard's confrontation mirrored and contrasted Lena's and Jerome's. There was none of the patronizing and eventual rift that marked the leaders in San Magnolia's encounters. Grethe and Richard come from angles of respect and professionalism. They've known each other for a long time, and unlike Jerome's stubborn refusal to use every weapon at his disposal, Richard signed off on the Nachzehrer. And we got a great confrontation between Shin and Frederica. Misaki Kuno SOLD Frederica's pain in one of her best performances in the series. I wouldn't be at all surprised if real tears were shed in the recording booth, and Shouya Chiba's ever growing detachment in his performance as Shin really highlights Shin's losing his hope and humanity. That was a brilliantly performed scene. Yuuya Uchida nailed Ernst's pre-battle speech. Easily, Aragorn at the Black Gate and Theoden at Pellenor Fields levels of Go Forth and Kick Assery. This was a fantastic episode featuring personal drama with the countdown timer always reminding the viewer of the upcoming battle.
