Mushoku Tensei Episode 3 Early Access

I agree. Being childish comes naturally to us. Becoming an adult has to be learned and those who refuse to or are prevented by trauma from maturing stay a certain age. Every adult has a child in them, but only a few children are mature. People have to be forced to mature, but that doesn't happen while you are sheltered at home. Opening the world for him, where he can have real adventures, heartships and trouble to overcome is the biggest gift Rudy could have gotten. He was SO gratefull to Roxy, which tells me that he was tired of his 30 years in a "safe space", where nothing of meaning ever happened. He didn't want to become what he is now and as we will see later on he deeply despises his old self, he just didn't have the strength to rise out of it until now. In a way his 5th Birthday was the day he was REALLY reborn into a new life.

There's really no excuse for Rudy's behavior aside from him being a shitty person, which you could argue is partly due to trauma and the lifestyle that trauma put him in. But I think it's interesting that he does slip into childish (and not necessarily man-childish) behavior sometimes. It's pretty easy for me to believe that being reincarnated with all your personality and memories intact and living through childhood again would have that effect. Things like getting in the chest and being so proud that he was able to open it, the way he cleaned the water up with the sheet, the way he interacts with his parents and even Sylphie sometimes, and even the bath incident in this episode. I feel like being a child again, I would pretty easily slip into a child's mentality without realizing it at least some of the time. Even as an adult, I think we all revel in childish activities or behavior once in a while.

The father son roles are so unique because of Rudy's actual age and I like how they play with that in detail. Paul wanted to discipline Rudy, who "finally" did something wrong, but the one who learned from that experience and got lectured was Paul. That being said Paul's reaction was so much more mature than his initial action against Rudy. Openly admiting to being in the wrong is one of the hardest and most mature qualities and Paul totally rocks the character growth out of this episode. In that way Rudy has a lot to learn and I really love how their role swapping comes around later and Paul is able to teach Rudy something about genuine relationships with people, especially girls (at the age of 6 ... mmmmh. That last scene was so funny).

Yeah - Love the intros. And they only get better :-)

Thanks for the reaction. I'm really enjoying your analysis of the episodes as well. Can't say I agree with everything you say, but it's interesting to see your perspectives and all the thought you put into them (as opposed to the 'Rudy Bad, This Anime Bad' nonsense spouted by many). I think Rudy (at this stage) is best described as a 'Man-Child Child' - a physical child with the mind of an immature adult. I still believe he is fundamentally a good person though - his instincts to protect others shows this most clearly. Bear in mind that a significant portion of the 'creepy' vibe is just from having Rudy's private thoughts as the narration. I suspect being able to listen in on the thoughts of anyone would inevitably yield a lot of creepy vibes. You are absolutely on the mark with the fan-service stuff - there is no fan service in this anime. If you feel uncomfortable it's because you're supposed to - and that's not fan service. And finally - what the heck is 'elf porn'!? (trying to resist the urge to google that). It would never have occurred to me that Rudy thought of that - I just thought he was happy that there was so much diversity in this world.

Something to note is that Paul tells Rudy "when you do something bad you apologize", and when he is bathing with Paul he immediately says sorry and takes accountability.

Once again perfect timing for a meal.

One of my favorite parts of Mushoku is how they handle the intros, almost always establishing or traveling shots of the scenery and landscape
