this was my first time watching this show and out of everything I was not expecting to get trauma backlash from a car crash in an anime. like yeah i think about it all the time while driving in real life but i did not expect such a well done portrayal of the aftermath of a really bad crash. on a compleatly different note an interesting thing in the Crunchyroll version they black out the scenes with the parents in bed.

There does seem to be a degree of virtue signalling on the part of detractors of this anime. One of the most appalling parts for me comes several episodes later (and has nothing to do with Rudy) but I've yet to see anyone complain about that - probably because it just involves physical violence. Won't say anymore here because - spoilers.

Great introduction. Whoever is still offended at this point, is looking for it purposefully.
That being said, what I love about Mushoku Tensei is that it does both what you said about how media can portray justice or good/evil at the same time: The ideal hero and the realistic, human protagonist in one.
The characters, especially Rudy, are imperfect, unjust and flawed. They are realistic characters, who mature slowly but surely into better people. That is what every person should strive for with a realistic outlook on what is humanly possible within a reasonable timeframe. In that regard it reminds me of Re:Zero.
Rudy starts of as one of the most dislikable protagonists and ends up as one of the most enjoyable anime characters in my eyes.

I will say the shivers you see from rudy when he was outside with Roxy is I believe a case of Agoraphobia. From what we know the man was a major neet that didnt seem to go outside alot from his lack of experience of interactions and using eroge as reference how to act in a scene. To all this time we been following him, the whole time he been inside never going outside until Roxy came.

I dont defend Rudy as person as he rreally is damaged and a pervert. What I defend is the story itself as its really tells Rudys whole life and if he ends up changing in comparison when he was reborn.
FOr me Rudeus never matured mentally and just stayed your typical virgin neet trope type.

I don't see Rudy as a bad person. I see him as a damaged person. As you noticed, the final act in his old life was fundamentally selfless - that's not the act of a bad character.
I also don't really see him as an adult mind in a child's body. He was socially and emotionally stunted in his old life. He never had the mind of a functioning, integrated experienced adult. His body was that of an adult, but mentally he was very immature. He now gets a second chance at growing up - both physically and mentally, albeit with some old life memory baggage. Maybe that memory is there to help guide him away from previous missteps. But it's going to take time and, like all children growing up, he's going to do some dumb stuff along the way. That memory does carry a burden though in that he's going to have to unlearn some bad habits of thought.

Woh! I loved this anime. So much so that I read all of the LN afterwards. Hope you enjoy it.
