Repeatable Seasonal Wednesday POLL!

Comments

This season of Beastars covers material that is the REASON why I got obsessed with the series

Yagi di Hoshi

I don't expect it to win, but 86 is my choice. If you ever do cover it, Teeaboo, let me know and I'll step up and sponsor the show.

Kevin Nauta

I agree with Angius, To your eternity is a tearjerker through and through with bland visuals. Miss Kobayashi S is a superior offering.

Daniel

No, it's a tearjerker drama because it's tearjerker drama. Never said I want it to be second Poputepipikku.

Angius

It's a tearjerker drama because it isn't another dumb comedy about kids? Great standards, not much entertainment would be left it you don't consider drama entertainment.

Kuba Lutek

To Your Eternity is a tearjerker drama for the sake of being tearjerker drama. People who like tearjerker drama will watch it to clean their tear ducts, people who want entertainment out of their entertainment will absolutely loathe it. My vote goes to Dragon Maid S. Things you loved about season 1 are here with twice the power and quality. KyoAni really did go above and beyond both in the animation department, the visuals, the story, characters, and everything else. Dragon Maid S has, hands down, the best fight scenes out of any show in recent memory.

Angius

Isn't completed yet, so probably next season

So, while Shinbo is not responsible for many of Shafts style choices, I would hazard to guess that he coordinates between the various departments/studios working on a project to keep the chaos in check at such an open work environment. We see this in how he doesn't often storyboard episodes, but rather corrects them, and double checks animations to keep things consistent. He takes on a lot of the composition work for a show, so editing, writing, and pacing. There are certain Shaft shows which have more Shinbo-isms then others. Dance in the Vampire Bund, SZS, the first two episodes of Bakemonogatari, certain eps of the first season of Hidamari, Tsukuyomi, scenes in Sangatsu, and Madoka (an example of when collaboration worked well). Once you've seen some of Shinbo's 90s-2000s stuff, his influence really sticks out when its on screen

During his OVA days, Shinbo would encourage collaboration to the max. For some scenes, the color coordinator would act as episode director to ensure that both backgrounds and characters would match Shinbo's extreme choices of lighting and color palate. The animation director would go to background art meetings (often outsourced to specialized studios), to make sure the shading would be continuous. etc. And these individuals were encouraged to express their own ideas (Shinbo is not an auteur by any measure). The consequences of this style of project direction, is that everything on the production slowed way down. While possible on OVAs, this doesn't work with tight tv schedules (Shaft's problems should come to mind).

The thing 86 has best in its favor is good production, and inventive direction from a relatively new staff. Cuts, transitions, and composition. Plenty has been written on sakugablog and Kvin's twitter for those interested. Sonny Boy is Natsume's personal philosophical manifesto. Interesting and thoughtful passion project, but less story, and more of the director's view on life. Some inventive animation, and impressive episode direction/storyboarding throughout. Great that such non-commercial projects still get produced. Heike is dope. It's good to see Yamada's direction being used to fill the show to the brim with tension. She almost feels liberated from Kyoani's motifs. Bishounen... not extremely Shinbo, but much more so then Shaft's other recent works (where he is uncredited). Shaft is rebuilding, with new inhouse cgi and background departments. Trying to solve the scheduling problems that caused the staff exodus. With all the new voices and some old hands, it shows where the studio is in its recovery. I have my own ideas on Shinbo's role at the studio, which I'll write below.

Beastars Season 2 lets go!

So many interesting shows here. Haven't seen almost any so had to vote based on quick research on what seems most interesting or good and something Teeaboo would enjoy. Will be happy with almost anything winning, but kinda wish To Your Eternity would win ^_^

Ira

Sonny Boy gotta be the perfect show for Teeaboo's style of reaction, match made in heaven (and AOTY)

would love to see sonny boy, bishounen tanteidan is also tons of fun just cause its nisio isin and shaft doing nisio isin and shaft things.

Bowsber

To Your Eternity is too depressing. Have you considered Takt Op. Destiny ?

Mark Wise

Yes, I really liked those two! Bishounen Tanteidan has one of the prettiest art that I've ever seen in an anime!

I am so so so happy that Kageki Shoujo made it to a poll. I don't hear many people shilling it so it's really nice that it somehow grabbed your attention. I doubt it's gonna win the poll but one can always wish! It's a rare seasonal show for me personally in the sense that it grabbed me almost immediately and that feeling stayed constant through the show. Here's to hoping it will appear in future polls as well! More Yuru Camp yesplsthankyou. I need more of my comfy camping girls. Vivy sure is a show that a decent amount of people shill but I don't think it is overshilled. It's a thrilling scifi that lends itself to some great discussion and tinfoil hat theorycrafting. Hopefully it will grab you as well as it did me. I think the show gets better the further you get into it. Small tidbit about Vivy: after the show finished, they didn't stop there. If you go and search, you can find new songs and character drama CDs that they've put out. I think there's 3 or 4 new songs out there, they're quite cool to listen to afterwards.

Dragon Maid S2 and Bishounen Tanteidan are really incredible

To your eternity!!

I’m glad that Beastars and Dragon Maid made it to the list.
