The connection that episode 22 has with the real world, I think, is the cloning technology. The current science can create an organism with the biological traits that are identical to those of the "original". The story seeks the difference between the two in the experience, or we could say memory that they have. This seems to cast another layer of thoughts to the previous memory-related episodes, where characters LOSE memories to become someone else.
