Changes to Patreon
Added 2017-12-07 17:40:25 +0000 UTCI'm sure y'all are getting a lot of messages from the creators you support regarding the changes Patreon is making to patron pledges. The first time I read the message they sent out, I had mixed emotions about it. I still do. The gist is that Patreon has decided to start charging patrons a fee (.39?) which covers part of the fees normally taken out of the creator's total at the end of the month. Their justification of this is that creators can make more money, I guess? Which, ya know seems like a nice idea in theory...
Creators depend on the generosity of patrons to support them on the site, and it makes sense that in order to use the service, creators are paying a fee... unloading the extra fees onto patrons seems completely backwards to me. And it seems like this would ultimately make it harder for creators to entice people to pledge to their Patreon, which will lead to creators making less money in the long run. Those fees can really add up especially for patrons who support multiple creators every month.
I'm pretty bummed out about it. I hope that y'all will stick with me, but I totally understand if you can no longer afford this site and it's fees. I really appreciate all the support you've given me so far!
