what irritates ME is when Genie so quickly shuts down their hardships just because of who their parents are. Like stfu, we can't control who our parents are or anything like that. Are you saying that just because they "didn't have it the worst" means that they can't have a hard life? Yeah no, just because they were born into royalty and rich families does not mean they cannot have hardships. Learn to have an open mind Genie.

I agree that people shouldn't diminish others by comparing problems, but "problems" and "privilege" are entirely different. Everyone has problems, whether big or small, but not everyone has social advantage in the society they live in just by being born, regardless of their problems. I agree that people should listen and value others more instead of instantly combating the weight of each other's struggles.

But yeah, didn't expect to feel sorry for Chan, or Asian Chad, but that was shit.

Well I mean Mai says, "You want a teary confession about how hard my life was? Well it wasn't, I was a rich only child who got anything I wanted." I was thinking about this a lot this week. I had a tiny discussion with someone who was complaining about white girl priveledge and I was like, 'How about just white priveledge? Because woman is a minority too." They didn't like that. I could go on with my sob story and this friend has told me about some of the racism he's had to deal with. everyone has a story and I don't know how helpful it is to measure them. I think it shuts people down. I'm just thinking. I like history and to be frank being royalty was kind of shit, people were always murdering others. But then peasant life was awful. Zuko has had a hard life. Was it as hard as others? Probably not. But I don't think talking about the things that have happened to you diminishes others but pretending his problems aren't real does diminish his which isn't fair. I don't know, it's like when I watch Hakoda talking to Katara, people often don't know how to handle the feelings of others. We're so busy dealing with our own, that's why I love that Hakoda scene so much, he just listens. That's the best way I think.
