Takasugi is not Saburou. He’s a former comrade of Gin and Katsura. He’s also the main antagonist for most of the series. Also most people on 1st viewing (including myself) do think the robot Saburou had merged with his human counterpart. What’s actually the case though, is that the robot had heard and recorded the line that the old man was obsessed with. And while it doesn’t have true emotion, it does know right from wrong.
