I dont think I assumed it was Naruto like ever really but i think my first thought was Minato and then it switched to Pain. The fact that the prophecy specifically says peace OR destruction really gets things a bit tangled

2021-10-29 18:49:15 +0000 UTCFinally we get to see Jiraiya go at it. In the original series we didn't see too much of his potential due to poisoning by Tsunade. This makes you understand why his name has that much weight and why Itachi+Kisame didn't want to engage him in combat (Edit: There were more reasons for it, but Itachi definitely respected Jiraiya, so he made the call). And we didn't even get to see the main course yet. Small correction: You mistook one of Nagato's jutsus for the wood style. It was the Earth release.
