DON'T KILL LORD JOHN PLEASE

Outlander 7x12 - "Carnal Knowledge" FULL REACTION

Ahhh I see! I really didn't see it like that, but it makes more sense now! It sounded like a petty jab at John's sexuality instead of genuine concern which is weird because Jamie never was insensitive or mean like that. I was putting it on his jealousy, but of course having been through what he's been through, it would affect him!

That's why it caught me off guard when he asked if Jamie had raped her I was like NO HEY WOAH NO OF COURSE NOT

I mean, Geneva kind of raped Jamie, not the other way around. I say "kind of" because it was nuanced and I think frankly, Jamie needed some sex and enjoyed it -- but the way she coerced him into it -- it wasn't mutual consent, that's for sure. At least that's not at all how it started.

Evie, as always, a very fun reaction to watch. Lots of things going on here. Andy G has some very good points that I hope you appreciate and I hope to expound on. First, some symbolizm. In the beginning of the episode, you see an apple faling from a tree: Indicating how similar William and Jamie are, i.e. the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Both are men of honor, temper, and violence. I mentioned before that John would do almost anything to protect Claire. In this case, he told Jamie about his tryst with Claire because he knew 1) Claire would tell Jamie, and 2) if Jamie became violent about it, it would be better if he bacame violent with John instead of Claire. At first, Jamie didn't believe John but once John stated "We were both fucking you", Jamie lost it. Andy G is right, it brought Black Jack Randall back. Now William: Do you notice the paralled between William and Brianna? Both were raised by men who were not their biological fathers; both went ballistic when they found out that what they believed about their lives was a lie. With Brianna, Claire promised Frank she would never tell Brianna about her parentage while he (Frank) drew breath. With William, his aunt Isobelle, John Grey, and her parents knew who had fathered William but would never admit it to anyone because the Ellesmere estate was one of the wealthest in England. And by English law, if a child is born in wedlock, the child is the legal aire and child of the husband. So it was to William's advantage to be the legitimate 9th Earl of Ellesmere. On another note, the letter Lord John received from Colonial Graves contained Lord John's reinstated commission. Since he was found in civilian clothes and carrying a letter of commission, he could be charged as a spy and hanged. You also mentioned Claire not being jealous: Claire wasn't jealous of Geneva or Mary McNab because she was two hundred years in the future and didn't know about them until Jamie told her well after the fact. But when she came back and found Jamie married to Laoghaire, Claire was very much jealous. One last thing: It is my opinion that this was one of the best episodes of the show since season 3. Others may not agree, but that's my opinion.

The entire Jamie and Claire conversation was almost exactly from the books. The show didn't do a good job explaining Jamie's feelings. When he asked Claire if Lord John "buggered" her, it was his own PTSD from the Black Jack Randall experience. He wanted to know if she was okay. Jamie also has this fear and insecurity of Claire potentially leaving him. That's why the entire conversation was about knowing what happened and what it meant to her. Did her heart change? That's why he asks if she was still his wife. Instead the show just focused more on his jealousy.
