Seven is an INCREDIBLE movie - just a masterpiece for the director David Fincher. Definitely one of the most intense endings I've ever seen too. When Sommerset starts yelling out, "John Doe has the upper hand here!" I still get chills. It's purposely never said what city the film is set in. It's meant to represent the apathy that exists in many, many places throughout the world. The color-scape of the whole film is perfect, almost a character itself. The dark greys and low lights, the uncomfortable, unceasing rain all combines to keep the audience on edge and unsettled for the whole film. It's brilliant. Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt were perfectly cast. In subsequent rewatches, you can see all the foreshadowing of David's emotions always getting the better of him. He's impulsive and emotional, and Brad Pitt conveys it perfectly. And Morgan Freeman is the perfect contrast to that. And yes, in spite of how it ended, I can not blame David at all. I love that he's wavering, but then a flash of Tracey's face is the thing that tips him and he pulls the trigger. It's so tragically beautiful and heartbreaking. They never say, but I like to believe there isn't a jury in the world that would ever convinct him. But yes, his life will never be the same, ever. 😞 The ending is everything. One of the most iconic endings for sure. Mills yelling, "What's in the box?!" is an incredibly well known line. Brilliant. And in spite of who Kevin Spacey is in his real life, there's no denying he's an incredible actor, and gives a horrifying performance. I loved this reaction - I'm so glad you got to watch this classic. You're little man's coos and giggles were the perfect antidote to the bleakness of the film, so thanks for that! 😊❤️
