Lol. Exactly.

Oh, and I meant to say too, that I agree that sometimes people hold John to strange real world standards. They often do the same with the boys. As though they just work as accountants or something! Like, do you see their lives? Where does normal fit here! Lol!

Yes, I've heard some truly bizarre head canons, based on deleted scenes (that are then spun wildly out of context!) that claim that John made Dean sell himself as a prostitute to get money. Like WHAT?! 😳 That's so random! As though Dean wouldn't have a completely different set of traumas if that was true! 🙄 That's probably the weirdest, but not the only crazy accusations I've heard levelled at John. Glad, and kind of amazed I found someone who shares my view on the elder Winchester. 😊

I love this episode. Henry is great. Love Abbadon too, great villain. Love the men of letters storyline too, can't wait for you to see more, Evie.

I pretty much agree about John. People hold him to strange real world standards and have whole head canons to support hating him. However, if he hadn’t taught the boys how to fight, they’d probably be dead. Yes, Dean especially ended up growing up too fast, and Sam especially felt isolated, but they survived. I’m very much on the *John was absolutely not perfect, but he wasn’t the devil either* side of things.

This episode is amazing - I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Fabulous reaction. It IS a really emotional episode - it will always be emotional for the boys (especially Dean) when it comes to anything to do with John. It was really cool to find out more about John's past, because you're right, we didn't know very much about him when he was younger. The scene where Dean is describing what John went through in his life always makes me teary too. A lot of the fandom is pretty down on John, and I can understand why. He's obviously a character with a lot of flaws and he clearly made mistakes while raising the boys. But I just can't hate him. I think, as the boys say at the end of this episode, that he did the best he could in a very messed up situation. After Mary died the way she did, every option for him kind of sucked. Should he leave the boys behind somewhere while he hunted and tried to find her killer, and take the chance that something comes after them while he's gone? Or does he keep them with him and teach them to protect themselves and to save others? Which ends up making both boys (but again, especially Dean) grow up too quickly, and robs them of a normal life. What decision do you make? I'd say given how traumatized, terrified, and confused he must have been with the way Mary died, keeping the boys close when they were little, and then teaching them how to defend themselves as young as possible, probably seemed like the best terrible option. Having said all that, of course, John was still far from a perfect father. He was distant with them, training them (especially Dean) as soldiers and often forgetting they were also his sons. He relied WAY too heavily on Dean to care for Sam, and put WAY too much responsibility on his little nine year old shoulders. (Which he did acknowledge and apologize for before he died.) I really wish John had lived, because not long before he died, Dean had started to stand up to him, and John had begun talking to them like the men they were, seeming to finally get the idea that they weren't just soldiers, they were his sons too, and the capable men he'd raised, who had thoughts and ideas of their own. He'd started to open up a bit more, and I feel like if he'd lived, they all might have been able to (eventually) heal some of that childhood trauma and hurt. And the boys could have had the chance to confront him about some of those mistakes he made. Anyway, those are my John feelings. Lol! I do love a complicated, flawed character. 😁 I agree with you about Henry as well. He didn't make a definitive choice of the MOL over John, it's just how things worked out. I think Dean's anger came from hurt on his Dad's behalf, but also his own feelings of hurt that John sort of chose the life (and revenge for Mary) over his sons well-being. I think Dean was thinking that Henry put his "glorified book club" first, just as John put the life and revenge first, over his sons. (But as I've said, I think John was highly traumatized after what happened and was just desperate to keep his sons safe, and prepared.) Anyway, yes the Men of Letters stuff is SO interesting, and I'm so excited for you to see more! 😁 Abaddon is a cool, and very intimidating foe in this episode! Loved the devil's trap bullet! I'm so glad you're enjoying the twice a week uploads - cause I know I'm loving it! 😁 P.S. Oh, and I agree that Henry is a million times better than Samuel, whom I can't stand! 😠
