The thing with Daemon is that he truly does love his family and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to not only protect them but to keep them at the top in terms of power. He just doesn’t think his brother is a good King and ultimately Daemon just wants recognition from his brother. Also the “aren’t you related?” Comment made me laugh because Targaryens are famous for their incestuous marriages whether that be brother/sister, aunt/nephew, uncle/niece, etc. I think the only form of incest that they didn’t do was parent/child. And you’re right Princess Rhaenys wasn’t saying all those things to be mean, she’s just trying to give Rhaenyra a reality check because she’s been through it before. Great reaction!
