Great reaction. I agree completely that this episode is just kind m'eh. It's not awful or anything, I just wasn't a huge fan of the MOTW's storyline. But yes to Dean in his sexy white button down being all happy about buying an app - adorable! I do think Dean is being truthful about telling Sam that he needs him, I think when Dean hunts on his own, he doesn't always make the best decisions in that he can get a bit reckless with his own safety, and can sometimes run headlong into danger. Having Sam with him tempers that impulse in him. But I agree as well that Sam absolutely has the right to want something more, and I do think that Dean wants that for him too, I just don't think Dean thinks it's feasible. I also think that, for Dean, the idea of NOT hunting, of letting innocent people die when they could be saving them, is just not something he could ever do. Dean NEEDS to keep people safe, NEEDS to fight the monsters, no matter what the consequences to his life are. It's just who he is. Sam on the other hand, as he says (and he's not wrong) knows it's not on them to save every single person. So, he's better able to separate himself from the job. He's been chasing normal his whole life. As always with SPN, I completely understand both sides of the arguement. I don't think either of the boys are doing a particularly good job (especially Dean) of actually hearing what the other one is saying. Dean doesn't want to face the possibility that Sam may ACTUALLY want to hang it up, and Sam doesn't want to look at the fact that Dean does, in fact, need him. I mean, Dean would have had his heart ripped out in this episode if Sam wasn't there. Not to mention that, as Dean said, Sam is his only sounding board, the only one he has to talk to about hunting and their lives. Anyway, the stuff with the boys was the only real takeaway I got from this episode. But I liked Jensen's directing. The cop that they talk to at the beginning of the episode, the one that Dean kind of squabbles with a bit, is Alan Ackles, Jensen's dad. 😊 He's also an actor, mostly voice work and commercials, and mostly in and around Dallas. But it was awesome that Jensen got to put him in an episode. And I like their little stand-off and animosity. 😁 Loved this reaction, as always. I have lots of thoughts on the next episode, but I won't say anything til next week. 😁
