Evil is not born, it is taught. Bonnett had his shield from attachments and was to afraid to let it fall. When he realised that Bree was playing with him he was most likely angry at himself that he lowered his shield and got wounded for it.

Even though he was a horrible person, she didn't want to see him die by his worst nightmare. Her capacity for empathy after everything he did to her is more than I could do for sure! That shot was mercy absolutely!
