Hi Evie, I’m so glad you watched this movie and enjoyed it. I remember going to see it in the theaters with a bunch of friends and my sister’s boyfriend, who looks like he’s in a biker gang, cried at the scene when Forrest realized who little Forrest was and asked if he was smart. I think this is one of those movies that everyone should see. I love how you explained all the good things that happened to Forrest because of who he is and how he saw the world. Tom Hanks is such an incredible actor. He is so versatile and I can’t imagine anyone else as Forrest. An old friend of mine met him when he was doing some work at Tom’s neighbor’s house and said that he was very nice. Tom won an Academy Award for this movie. The year before he also won for a movie called Philadelphia where he plays a man with AIDS. He is only the second actor in history to win back to back Academy Awards. The last one was in the 1930’s. Linda mentioned that some people don’t like Jenny. I have also seen some reactions to this movie where they felt that Jenny was stringing him on his entire life and that Forrest deserved better than her. There was that scene where he asked her to marry him and she said “You don’t want to marry me” I agree with Linda and I’m happy to see that you understand why she is the way she is. I think you may have said in another reaction that the relationship between father and daughter can really shape who the girl grows up to be. I’m not sure if they have them In Canada, but there are Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurants all over the U.S. and in some other countries. I went to one years ago and there was memorabilia from the movie on the walls and there were TVs playing the movie and our waiter would ask us trivia questions about the movie. The restaurant I went to had the bench out front with his little suitcase and box of chocolates and his Nike shoes in the ground like statues and there was an opening in the back so we could sit on the bench and slide our shoes under the opening and it looked like we were wearing them with the suitcase and chocolates next to us. I have a picture of myself sitting on the bench and it looks like I’m wearing his shoes. Gary Sinise played Lt. Dan. He was a regular on CSI: New York and reunited with Tom Hanks in Apollo 13 and had a small role in The Green Mile with Tom playing a lawyer. Great reaction as always Evie! I love how you get so invested in the characters.

2023-01-13 23:50:27 +0000 UTCThis is one of my all-time favourite movies. It's so beautiful, and well acted/directed. You called Forrest "pure" and that's exactly it. His soul is just beautiful. One of the things that I absolutely LOVED about your reaction is that you understand Jenny and where she was coming from - how the horrifying abuse in her childhood shaped her. So many reactors I've seen really don't like her, or sometimes they'll say they outright hate her. 😯 And I've simply never been able to understand that! She's such a damaged, heartbreaking, beautifully layered character - I love her. And I love that she was finally able to give her life some order, find a bit of peace, and finally accept that she deserved a love like Forrest's. You probablly recognize the little boy who plays Forrest Jr. from the Sixth Sense. His name is Haley Joel Osment, and yes, he is the most adorable little button! 😍 This story is so intricate, and the questions it asks about life and destiny and our place in the world are so deep and timeless. But the way Forrest sees the world is truly beautiful, and I think you're right that sometimes the simplest ways of looking at the world are the best. Love that you watched this and enjoyed it so much! Truman Show is also a fabulous movie, hope you do get to watch it some time. 😊
