Omg that's hilarious, here I was thinking he was this fashion icon π

He's dressed in VERY 70s clothing which in 1989 made you an absolute fashion disaster! Lol! And in the scene where he's wearing a white sweater you can see his black "dickie" showing through his sweater. A dickie (that's what that weird fake turtleneck thing was called!) was meant to give a person the look of wearing a turtle neck without the extra layer of clothing. But they're not meant to show through your clothing. Kinda defeats the purpose of them. π And the blue leisure suit he's wearing when he kidnaps Frank Shirley was considered completely awful back in 89. Probably swinging back around into fashion now, as these things do. π

2022-12-02 21:21:05 +0000 UTCOmg!! This was such a fabulous reaction! This is one of my all-time favourite Christmas movies! I've watched it pretty much every year since I was a kid. It came out in 1989, and yeah it's absolutely fabulous. I could definitely recite it for you! π My brother and I quote it all the time! π So, yeah, this movie was actually the third of four, "National Lampoon's Vacation" movies. All with the Griswold family. The first was from 1983 and was simply called, "Vacation" then in 1985 they made "European Vacation" and then "Christmas Vacation in 1989. and then "Vegas Vacation" in 1997. IMO, the first two movies are fairly funny, if a little dated, and Vegas Vacation is kinda terrible. But Cousin Eddie was introduced in the first movie. His wife, Catherine, is Ellen's cousin, Eddie is just her husband. And yeah, he is SUPER gross, and is definitely meant to be. He's that like, atrocious in-law that your family just inherits. π But it's not super clear for most of this movie what his relationship is, and the kid's are calling Clark, "Uncle Clark" so it's not surprising you were confused. At the time, the other two movies in the series were pretty well-known, so people just remembered Eddie from the first movie. But most people don't know the first two movies anymore, it's really only this one that's stuck around. It's a kind of a strange "tradition" with the vacation movies that Clark and Ellen are always acted by the same two people, Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo, but Russ and Audrey are always portrayed by different actors, (and yes, that is a baby Leonard playing Russ in this one!) and there's no rhyme or reason to who plays them, or what they look like. In fact, I think even their ages switch around; sometimes Audrey is older like here, and sometimes Russ is. It's a weird thing, but it's just accepted along with all the other insane shenanigans that the Griswolds get up to. π Also, in every movie, at some point Clark will yell for Russ when Russ is standing right beside him. I think just cause that's a very dad thing to do. π So glad you enjoyed this movie as much as you did. It's such a classic!
