Outlander 3x05 - "Freedom And Whisky" FULL REACTION

Comments

I like that scene with Claire making the suit/dress and the batman music playing, abd Claire being so fine.

Love your Outlander reactions Evie. I agree with you that Sandy's venom was uncalled for, given the circumstances and each party's respective choices, but not surprising. But I took this interaction to be a key conversation - given what Claire is grappling with at this point. Otherwise why include it? I saw this exchange as planting a seed in Claire's mind - to help her make the decision to return to Jamie. When Sandy said 'I would give anything to have just one more day' with him, that had to have resonated with Claire who has felt the same way about Jamie for 20 years. The writers had to convince our 21st century minds that the decision to return was appropriate but also rational (Claire is a surgeon afterall). Up until this point, she had buried the idea deep down. So combine this comment of Sandy's with Joe's encouragement, Roger being there to support Brianna and Brianna's own reassurances, and they've successfully mapped out how Claire arrived at the decision to leave Brianna and return to Jamie.

I think the next episode is my very favorite of them all. Or tied with The Wedding. Hard to choose. I REALLY love this next one though (A. Malcom). Then after that, well, again, it's Outlander so yanno the joy can't last forever!

OOOooOOoo! This next episode is soooo great. But . . .um . .. you know it's Outlander, so the ecstasy and joy can't last forever! :).

I had your same reaction as you did.

Hi Evie !!! Absolutely loved your reaction ah ahh !!! I got goosebumps too !!! And of course, I've cried for the 39573875th time . The end was so intense, right ? ^^Now, let's watch the next one :) Can't wait.

Nessie- Je lis, et alors

Exactly!! I feel bad for her because the fact Frank didn’t tell her the truth is the reason why she’s blaming Claire but like girl, no.

I agree with you about the Sandy, Frank and Claire situation; it was Frank's decision not to leave Claire but it was also Sandy's decision to get involved with a married man even if he does say that him and his wife are separated. Sandy chose to be in that situation just like Frank chose to stay with Claire.

Please forgive the length... but it's F&W! Intense from the opening scene, Clare's determination to not make the same surgical mistake that cost Sullivan the Scot from Boston his life, even in the face of some real risk to the woman patient she's working on now, tells us (and Joe Abernathy) that Clare's psyche may be out of whack. Then at Harvard, we learn Briana's in a full blown crisis causing her to not only question pursuing 'history,' but question her whole life going forward. It's evident. the Randell women haven't come back from Scotland; 'whole.' [enter stage left]- Roger Wakefield (MacKenzie) - Roger... the only person who can speak to and possibly fix things, because he's the only person who knows the time warp these women are in. And as for Roger... well his passion is leaning into history... and I also think he may be fond of a certain redhead... so, there's that! Among the many supportive intentions and other comments Joe Abernathy makes for Clare, don't overlook his depiction: "fracture planes right through the centrum" regarding the 200 year old mystery skeleton that is seemingly... a weird tangent. Evie's confusion was evident... her surprise over what that all meant will be more so. (BTW, I'm curious if Evie knew the reference for who Ozzie and Harriet are; I'll bet not!) The best part of this exchange however was Evie nodding and tearing up at Joe: "If you have a second chance at love, you should take it." Then, don't overlook Briana's remarks about the Robinson Cloisters, her appreciation for how it was built, every stone held by the pressure of the precisely measured and cut stone next to it. More than that, listen to her distrust of history and because of that distrust, who SHE REALLY is. And it doesn't get much better than the meeting of the women: the wife, and the mistress... especially when Sandy's "just one day" comment gives Clare the greatest gift either might imagine - the "just one day" realization that lets Clare decide to purse Jamie again. Evie... I understand you defending Clare, but Sandy earned her comment... Clare gets Jamie - Sandy just loses Then... back under the Cloisters.. the mother-daughter moment when all the emotional truths for each were laid on the table, freeing each to be true to themselves. Next.. the mother-daughter conversation on the couch... the two considering what "going back" means... losing one another... reviving Jamie's love, or not... all coming to a head with Briana's strong insistence... and selfless permission... granting Claire her freedom to go back to Bri's father. And in return the confusion in Bri's life is making a bit more sense. As for Clare, she can honestly reach back now to rekindle her happiness again. The Randell women are healing... to Evie's tears and even through Clare's lingering hesitations. I like Clare's comment made to Bri, "He's a good one." (when Roger left for the Whiskey)... because... you know Roger's always going to offer a celebratory dram of Scotch. The last bit of business... Exchanging Bri's kiss intended for her father, for Ellen's Scottish Pearls left to Bri. (Suggested to be used for a wedding Clare will likely never see... er,.. ) Hugs and Kisses and Tears and Goodbyes... finally the toast - "To Freedom and Whiskey!" ~ All Three Leaving only Briana and Roger to their new American Christmas traditions. And with tears of my own, every time I watch... This time joined by Evie... Clare stepped through the looking glass into 1766 Edinburgh, tentatively up the stairs to Alexander Malcom's print shop˜, hearing HIS voice, to peer over the railing and down, while 'looking as radiant as she ever had' and announcing... "It's me... Clare." ...so, I voted... #10-Masterpiece of course... I mean... ~ Marley was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatsoever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman, the clerk, the undertaker... ~ With prose such as that, how could the poll rating be anything less? More than that, like Clare's back-to-the-future Masterpiece; Dragonfly in Amber... (one of television's greatest) Freedom & Whiskey is the perfect back-to-the-past Masterpiece bookend for Clare! (And better, it left Evie positively giddy!) So... To Freedom & Whiskey!!!

Evie, I can’t wait to watch this later today!
