I think the biggest worry is it'll either ruin some big plot points in Adventure time that you haven't watched yet. OR you won't pick up on things in the new series that you would have if you'd finished all of Adventure time first. That being said. You guys could potentially get close to finishing AT beforehand. Seasons 7-10 are short, especially the last two.

People say the same thing about a lot of anime openings, but if you see a bunch of clips of characters you don't know without any context, you're not really spoiled on anything. Like, it would be a spoiler if the trailer said "Hey! Ice King is Simon!" and they hadn't watched Holly Jolly Secrets yet. But the trailer doesn't say that. It doesn't say much about any spoilers or show much either. They definitely shouldn't watch the show itself until after Adventure Time though. But the trailer isn't any harm.
