Though personally not a big fan of Kai - much prefer the original, I guess it does involve less episodes BUT. IF Kai does not include the whole Gohan arc at the start of the Buu saga then I say you gotta watch that before moving on to Kai

2023-05-27 18:23:44 +0000 UTCI, personally, am still voting for all yall to start at OG Dragon Ball and make your way through the whole series. As for starting Buu, fellow reacters Definitely not Definitive recently started with episode 100 of Kai, having only seen abridged, and have understood the plot without issue. The only adjustmenst that are really made are pacing and voices.

Teen gohans va gets replaced by luffys English dub va (who is horrendous and arguably the reason the greatest anime of all time hasn't fully reached western audiences). And then the buu saga is inferior to the original buu saga. I don't know what happened with the direction but the buu saga in dbz kai seemed so robotic. the emotional impact from the original dbz was lost due to the poor script writing, voice acting and music like it's such a huge down grade. I would recommend you watch certain scene comparisons from the buu saga side by side and you'll better understand what I mean.
