The show ultimately is about truth and love... and it feels almost like taking a deep sootging breath to watch it. Thank you guys for reacting and saying exactly what you're thinking! Still... what we All say here is almost entirely our own opinions, we would need professional writters to say more certainly if Season 5 was bad or not.

2023-03-26 18:37:12 +0000 UTCPersonally, I wasn't into media and the news when steven came out. I can see people definitely pushing back but I believe steven started out really great. Ultimately it's up to the parents to determine what their child can and cannot see. Once your like 14 then I think one can watch whatever they want - except rated R media, then they should get permission until they are old enough. The first half of steven did a good job at showing dynamic relationships, and although the gems are not like a poly couple, it helps to show that there can be families that don't have the traditional family structure. Steven is great but there were some episodes in season 5 that I felt they added some representation that wasn't well-established or introduced. The writing and story slowly and slightly dropped near the end which prevents me from gove this show a 10/10. But this is just my opinion, overall it is a good show, and I think better shows can be inspired by steven.

But basically, the issue was that you would get to a high point in the story - like Luffy is about to fight the main boss - and then there is a 1 to 6-month gap in the episodes. And when the next episode aired you would get a slice-of-life episode like Ronaldo or steven walking around the town.

Regardless of if we are ignoring them at all. They are clearly a big chunk of the fanbase and imo it deserves to be talked about. Especially when out of every show we do the Steven U fans are easily the most toxic. Boom has actually had to ban quite a few people because of them giving us death threats over our Pearl opinions

It’s still funny since it’s pretty unexpected that Steven would have dressed up and gotten on stage.

2023-03-25 05:04:43 +0000 UTCI've definitely come across many people who were not happy with the last season and essentially made similar points, but without going into any details as to not spoil anything personally I enjoyed all of season 5 exactly as it was. I wouldn't say that it was objectively bad writing, just that it didn't sit well with some. I also like future and how it addresses things in the long term, and yes I wish that Rebecca didn't need to sacrifice anything for season 5 to have that big event - I hate that we still have to fight for these things at all and can't just fully tell the stories we want to tell. But I personally loved how it ended even before I learned about the cut season. I liked the over arcing message the end had. It's fine that others didn't like it. But I wouldn't call it "bad".

2023-03-25 02:26:30 +0000 UTCTo answer your question about the series, Steven Universe itself has 5 seasons (according to Ionic_Rezz, Hulu only has 4 of them, so I recommend jumping ship to HBOMax at some point), then there's a full-length movie, and then there's an epilogue series called "Steven Universe Future" that's just shy of a season long.

But as a result of it they cancelled Season 6 (and she knew it), and therefore because of the lack of time and build-up the finale of the show was a messy narrative-disappointment. It really looks like Rebecca was more concerned about getting her personal ideology being heard and seen than telling a good story and giving her own show the wrap-up it deserved. Don't get me wrong.... Im all about representation in the media, I'm Bisexual myself.... But even so..... I would have preferred not having the thing in season 5 but the show wrapping up in an excellent way........... Rather than what we got. "Good Messages don't Justify Bad Writing". It's honestly a miracle that we got Future, it fixed almost everything that Season 5 did wrong, and the fact that Rebecca was practically not involved in it's production at all it's also quite telling giving it's really high quality in storytelling.

But yeah there wasn't a lot of main rep until Steven, which really set a great example for future cartoons to come, I adore Owl House.

Im not even talking just lgbt aspects but just having diverse casts, be it race, bodyshape and personality, interesting side characters etc. Its truly a really influential show and while it does have its own flaws we cant act like it undoubtedly made way for cartoons to be better.

2023-03-24 21:42:14 +0000 UTCThere was genuinely a lot of pushback for how progressive steven universe was, like I remember there being petitions to get it taken down, conservatives would say it was corrupting the youth, it was wild. And overseas they even banned the show altogether- I think in Russia? An episode in the future wasn't allowed to air. But considering the time it was at, it was one of the few shows with good and diverse representation. Still one of my all time favorites! I just wish it had the time and support to fully flesh out its story, we were SO starved while it was airing lol, the conspiracy theories were so fun to be a part of though, reminded me of the gravity falls theories.

Every time they rejected it, Rebecca would come back and go "alright how about if I add this? Give this part more action? Music? Made it bigger?" And ultimately the line was drawn at "we'll allow this, but as a result this is the last season". Rebecca hit them with that solid "okay, fine, I still want it", and boom.

2023-03-24 19:13:41 +0000 UTCWatching the show as it originally aired was a huge detriment to the story, that's honestly why I seek out reaction channels now that are watching it at a reasonable pace, just to see what that would've been like. Talking about/theorizing over a show for a week, taking in the side character episodes? Fun! Talking about/theorizing for months and months only to be given a small handful of episodes that don't even further the plot, which you've been waiting forever for? Hellish! It's no wonder a lot of fans turned on the show after it was all said and done. The best writing in the world can't stand up to a fan theory you've been lovingly crafting in your head for three years waiting for the reveal of what actually happened. It's nice to see people actually enjoy Sadie episodes, instead of being furious that they've got to wait another five months for actual plot. Cartoon network was really uncomfortable with how queer the show was and honestly I think they were just trying to kill it. And for some frustrated fans, they really did.

I can't give y'all any context but there's something in season 5 that Rebecca fought them to keep, and they sacrificed a full season in order to keep it in. They worked hard for it and made it work, and you would never know anything was cut short just watching it unknowingly, and I'm glad that Rebecca fought for it, but we did actually lose a full season of SU because of executives being pig headed

2023-03-24 18:09:24 +0000 UTCThe posting schedule for SU was wild. You see there was no gap between 1 and 2, Jailbreak aired one day and Full Disclosure aired the next. Honestly looking back over air dates, the worst season was season 5. First third of it aired in a "Steven Bomb" as they were called in May 2017, then you had the next few in December 2017, then April/May 2018, July 2018, and then the rest of the season December2018-Jan 2019. Each time we'd get somewhere between 5-7 episodes. That's what was so weird with the show, you wouldn't have massive gaps between seasons, it would be during the seasons. Basically from May 2017-January 2019 they aired 32 episode, usually airing 2 at a time, which is like 16 normal episode.
