I've been so excited to see you guys see this episode! Bought my favorite snacks and everything! ^_^ Specifically for, yes, Azula! This isn't my favorite episode but it has some of my favorite lines!

Jessica Williams

Can’t wait for them do see azula start fire bending and see the unintentional inspiration for some mha stuff

Tom Nougat

So to provide info for a small comment made during the video that it sounded like you might be wondering about, when Azula was brought out on the palanquin (the box she was being carried in) on the boat, and you commented about how do you manage that on a moving vessel. I work on a large freight ship and unless the waves are large (7-10 feet) you barely feel it moving at all! You can walk down the deck and carry whatever and run around and your brain knows it's moving but it's hard to believe it's moving because it FEELS like it's completely still. Hope that helps! EDIT: I work on the great lakes. I don't know how the ocean freight ships experience movement

The Avatar State is like a super mode. It's the power of every avatar (subconsciously) but none of the finesse. It's also not a cheat sheet. Aang's chakra goes wild in that state, and he can't recall how to use anything he does. Also in Chinese and Japanese culture, the cutting of the hair in such a fashion (Zuko and Iroh) is a sort of 'fuck you' to symbolize their rejection of their homeland and culture, and the beginning of their true exile.

Thank you guys for uploading this on streamable, I was struggling so much to watch the last episode of this having to pause to buffer every 3 mins on a 45 min video, love hearing your speculations and discussion though, you guys are great. I hope patreons video system gets fixed

OmikayeYT

we saw what happened with aang when he tried to skip the order and burned katara, it is easier and better to learn in cycle which for aang would be air, water, earth, and last being fire.

Title: 3 Men will kill a teenager if he talks shit to his uncle.

DementisXYZ

I'll say this now, Azula is probably one of the Top 10 Villains in cartoon history. Just the way she can be mencing and light in a single sentence should tell you her future threat

Iron_Bishop

I just want yall to know, remember every bit of that convo with roku, trust me.

Kameron Mack

When Aang tried to learn Fire before the other two, he burned Katara.

Gestrid

Control of the avatar state comes to them on the way of being the avatar. Usually after mastering all for elements. Like roku showed when the other avatars used it, they all only stayed in the state for a moment. So it’s best used in quick bursts instead of an extended period.

Moonkey

It's a well known fact among the fanbase that in the original script Azula was going to kill the captain of the ship when he accidentally revealed Zuko and Iroh were prisoners. Cut because that would have been way too dark probably.

Puppet

man she got the crazy eyes lmao

OneCrunchMan

Such an amazing intro for Azula! And yes, the cutting a top knot has a lot of symbolic meaning in the cultures Avatar is taking inspiration from. Usually based around symbolizing cutting ties with your old life and starting a new one.

Seraphem

Here’s the explanation about the avatar state. In the avatar state he can use the combined abilities of every single past avatar. When he’s not in the avatar state it’s only his ability he can use. So without the avatar state Aang can only use waterbending and airbending. Once he glows he can use every single element since every previous avatar is a master

Roronoa Zoro

To chime in, yes, the fire nation culture is heavily based on Japanese culture! The topknot is a status symbol (though originally, they helped to hold up helmets, the more you know). The act of cutting one's topknot is a symbolic act of cutting all ties, possibly (but not necessarily) to the fire nation as a whole, but CERTAINLY to the royal family and any position of power or status.

Kemi Stanton

In the Samurai code of feudal Japan (on which the Fire Nation is based), the topknot was the symbol of loyalty and attachment of the samurai to his lord. Cutting their topknots is symbolic of severing their ties and loyalty to the Fire Lord, as well as serving to change their appearance to better blend in with the Earth Kingdom folks.

rrrebo

I feel like it needs to be reiterated - Aang can use all elements in the avatar state, because he's being possessed by his past lives, who had mastered it while they were avatar. The avatar state is completely unrelated to his current level of training.

Fabbrizio Plays

to answer the question of why aang didnt just stay with bumi, the elements need to be learned in the order of the avatar cycle which is air, water, earth, fire. also they needed katara to master waterbending as well

Romang

cutting off their top knot signifies leaving behind their old life if i'm remembering correctly. based on japanese culture i think

Dillon

Damn Zuko bring out the Pearl Rage in Ruff

ThorHammer

So excited to see y'all meet Azula 😈
