One thing about ellie and her power of choosing:
she ia a very traumatized kid. Marlene, the fireflies and all of the deaths she saw in her life, made her believe that, being a cure was her purpose if she wasnt a cure for humanity she wouldnt be worth anything. And thats not someone capable of choosing dying over the world or surviving, because that choice was taken away when the world convinced her that she couldnt be like any fucking human being and have worth for her own!
Marlene said she understood Joel about having to sacrifice ellie, she did not, I think thats a lie she told herself to excuse the rush to sacrifice ellie because she was so despaired for a cure. Is she did feel that way she would have given the kid a choice, and maybe saying a goodbye and a sorry (ellie would choose to die).
And yeah the doctors were so fucking weird, like yeah lets kill our only subject of studies before we can actually search more in her body. 2003 doctors 20 years later trying to find a vaccine to a fungal infection, something we in 2023 still dont have. 100% sure would work.
Btw the world was already shit before the apocalipse, not even a fungus could stop fascism, cannibalism, a child predator, racism and so many other fucked up things. So yeah I get joel, would choose my kid over this shitty world. I clean the bloody floor joel walks by, and I do it smilling.

I highly recommend The Legend of Vox Machina (adult animated series on Amazon Prime with 2 seasons currently and more planned), as well as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix (think that's about 5 seasons). Both are amazing and I would love to see your reactions to them!

This series was beautiful and wonderful, so glad I gave it a chance! The complexity of Joel's choice was amazing, it's not really about 'right or wrong' because it's not a black and white situation. It's about love, and all the complications and sacrifices we make for it. Before I go on a tangent, I just wanna say thank you guys for such great reactions as always. It's been a pleasure!
As for series recommendations if that's what we are doing, I think I've already suggested a select few in the past but I will back up other people saying watch Bojack Horseman and Legends of Vox Machina- they are both excellent adult series!

Bojack Horseman is an incredibly written deep show. Western animation at its best in my opinion. Definitely great reaction content.

Guys I would LOVE to see y'all react to BoJack Horseman. It's a really really rough ride but as far as adult animation goes it pulls no punches, and hits on a lot of real things that people deal with every day. Season 1 is a bit of a slow start but I definitely think it's worth a full watch. I'd so be here for that.

Also I'm SURE YouTube comments gave you shit for dying to the clickers a bunch, and that part was hard for me my first playthrough too! But if you're struggling to sneak around them try to ease up on the joystick a bunch. Even if you're crouching they can hear you if you move faster than the babiest of baby steps. Always go as slow as possible and they won't get ya

Also I think you're very right about the ending controversy. People who think Joel was too dark in this are used to projecting themselves on him, and it's difficult to be confronted with the brutality of that sequence from a third person perspective. That's a lot of what made the limited action in the whole season so effective for me. There's an element of power inherent in being the person pressing the buttons and causing the action, and a powerlessness in watching things unfold passively as a viewer, that the show utilized beautifully.

I think you all would have a lot of fun watching The Expanse. It's 5 seasons and it goes hard from the very beginning with worldbuilding and plot.
