2023-03-14 08:44:42 +0000 UTCSo to give some context to the horror of those forced fusions. Think of it as a combination of Frankenstein’s Monster and human centipede. Each piece fused could be like a limb, finger, frontal lobe of a person stitched together. Now add in the horror that each piece is alive and still has a part of its consciousness from it original body kind of like being stitched together in human centipede. But since they are pieces there is no way to know how much of that person is there. And you are not allowed to die, you are incapable. So long as their is energy in the combined/whole gem you can never die of old age. The physical gems are like hard drives, the forms they take are basically software applications. When the program crashes (form breaks) they need a hard boot to fix the problem (reforming maybe with some settings tweaked). With this I hope it’s easier to understand the horror of the situation. Especially from Garnet’s perspective. It can also double as a very dark representation of forcing people into ‘couplings’ which is something that has historically happened.

2023-03-11 21:14:39 +0000 UTCIn terms of the “Child Forms” thing, just to clarify- the idea is that they were simply depicted as “younger” for the sake of the flashback, it’s an aesthetic choice to show “this was a long time ago.” Those were just the forms they took at that period of time for whatever reason, which would have no bearing on their effectiveness in battle or actual life experience, but rather is just a visual signifier of the SU timeline.

2023-03-11 17:18:35 +0000 UTCI promise I'm not one of those crazy Pearl fans (she's no Garnet or anything, she's ok) but in Pearl's defense: she comes from a race that lives for millennia, easily outclasses humans physically, and are intelligent enough to single-handedly build a (mostly) functioning spaceship in a barn (season one). I think a lot of people would be pretty salty if the person they devoted their life to for thousands of years chose a particularly charming golden retriever over them.

However, I remember the creators once said that some Gems can have actual clothes made for them for status: Jasper wore an actual cape in her first appearance.

The music and the look on garnets face was also really terrifying and gave so much depth and importance to the situation. Also just to clarify, you cant heal a shattered gem, even when finding all of the pieces. Even when gems are corrupted the crystal gems still cant really do anything but bubble them. Steven/rose can heal cracked gems.

She didn't emerge from the Kindergarten until well after the war was over, the only life she's ever known was either living on her own in the abandoned Kindergarten, or being taken care of by Rose. So till Steven was born she never really had any pressure to grow up and mature.

I love that she's flawed and isn't perfectly nice because you can't always expect that of somebody, especially when that someone feels like they are being wronged in some way. In this case, Greg becoming Rose's favorite. I would say more on Pearl but I feel my knowledge of the whole series would add too much. Being someone who adores deeply flawed characters, I can't say I'm spared from sometimes feeling annoyed about how you talk about certain characters, like Pearl or even Sasha in Amphibia. I cannot understand being genuinely annoyed with them. But it's so silly to harass people over minor opinions like this, or tell them how to feel. I hope you guys keep being you and keep forming your own opinions! I think some folks should take my advice when I say, just skip over discussion that bothers you. I do it and even when I don't, you should never take it to heart or at least keep it to yourself.

2023-03-10 20:34:38 +0000 UTCFirst of all i want to be clear about something, if you guys think that Pearl is annoying then that's completly understandable and valid, nevertheless i still want to state my personal opinion on this matter, and i say this because i don't want to come off as someone who is trying to force you to like her character. i think the reason why ya'll are still so annoyed with Pearl is because you haven't tried to think how this whole situation plays out from HER perspective. Remember... these are thousands of years old sentient beings, they don't view things the same as we do, or at least not initially. It is clear that Rose and Pearl had a thing with each other (so no H-man, it is Not a Mother and Child relationship xddd), you can just tell from the way they looked at eachother and danced with eachother before fusing, and it's also very likely that this has being their relationship for a veeeeeeery long time. but because they are from a completly different culture and because they're also from a different species... Rose (as she stated here) didn't see a problem with having intimate relationships with humans over the years even tho she and pearl already had a thing going on. Then you realize that Pearl calling Greg a "Phase" is actually kind of appropiate (although still mean) cuz... based on what Rose said in this episode... she most likely had realtionships with other humans in the past but she just became disinterested and left them or... watched them die of old age. Even in the song you can hear her talking about how Greg is so "entertaining"... almost as if she was talking about a toy, it wasn't until Greg called her out that she started questioning the way she viewed romantic relationships. and just imagine for a second that either Ruby or Sapphire de-fused and started dating a human while still having their realtionship with the other, that would be pretty messed up right? of course... that will never happen cuz Ruby and Sapphire only want to be with each other... But now you can imagine how sad Pearl's situation is... she was in love with Rose Quartz who was a Gem that loved experimenting new things... including intimate relationships with other organisms, obviously Pearl was going to become jealous... but she didn't bother to try to stop Rose because she knew Humans are not inmortal and therefore her "relationships" with them were bound to be temporary... of course until Steven Happened. oh... and talking of Steven... just to clarify... since humans and gems cannot fuse... what most likely happened for Steven to be conceived was that Rose shapeshifted the interior of her body to make Female organs and through the sexual act with Greg she was able to become pregnant. So yeah, if you analize in detail what is being presented... you will find more than enough reason for Pearl to be the way that she is... althought granted... she can be pretty mean and condescending for no real reason at times. still... if you guys don't like her that's completly ok.

Totally understandable to get confused about it and think the gems age like people do

They had a leader to instruct them that they could rely on, they weren't dealing with grief from losing said leader, they didn't have a child to raise. You can tell especially with Garnet how much more open she was before she had to step up as the new leader of the crystal gems and take on all the responsibility for her peers and the earth that came with that.

They're all the same height relative to one another in the past and Present. Rose just makes everyone look tiny. Even Amethyst is the same size even though her behavior is slightly more immature

A shattered gem can't be healed, thats why they were rushing to fix Amethyst before she fully shatered, a shattered gem is just completely dead, no going back

I watched the show as it was coming out, but unfortunately fell off of it around season four. I don't remember disliking Pearl up to this point in the series (Garnet still remains my favorite)--if anything I pitied her, which isn't a compliment.
