(silver) Avatar The Last Airbender Episode 11 REACTION

Comments

its kinda funny how this is the worst episode but the next is considered one of the best

matthew james Stromberg

Even if people don't like this episode for the narrative it still has a lesson being shown which is Aang learning how to be the avatar by creating peace. This episode wasn't bad imo but i understand why people may say its the worst

Shamar

na the lying part was the best, but this ep is kinda regarded as the worst ep of ATAL which really says more about how freaking good ATAL is.

One G. O A. T. One Dream

A majority of people think this is the worst episode, which means most people would say it's all uphill from here!

MajestNick

i remember watching the series when it aired and coming home after school to 2 episodes of avatar re runs and this one was ALWAYS the first one.

Obsidianfox

Aang being twelve never made me feel bad for him since that's just standard child of prophecy age for these kids shows.

TrixieTurner

you know I could see Ruff as a firebender, Boom as a earth bender, seeohknee as an airbender and H-Man as a waterbender. would love to see what yalls favorite bending is!

Obsidianfox

during avatars run this was a common rerun episode so it acquired hate from seeing it so much and picking out its flaws

Soul Reaper

Requisite "This is the worst ep of the show" comment. Okay that out of the way... So, aside from the other things said about why that is the most common comment said about this ep, here's another big issue I just noticed this time. The whole 'No food in the canyon" thing being treated like just a minor, "You can go a day without eating" thing. Which okay, for a usual tour group, sure, but these are refugees fleeing their destroyed homes, everything they have and own is what they are carrying with them, included all the food they have to last them till they reach Ba Sing Sei. Them leaving ALL their food behind isn't a case of just going a day without eating, it's a case of them having nothing to eat till they reach at the very least the next major town where they might, might be able to buy more, or else hoping they can forage for enough food on the way to keep all of them going, in what is still the end of winter so not exactly the most likely time of year to get good amounts of foraging done. And no one brings this up. Which is just sloppy for how well thought out this show tends to be, so yes this is actually another "Why this is the worst episode" comment.

I have no hesitation in calling this one of the weakest episodes of the entire series, but the amount of hate it gets is pretty disproportionate -- it's not actively bad, IMO, it's just a 'meh' episode of television (which among Avatar episodes puts it pretty close to the bottom). The bits with the guide being traumatized and the "I made it up" resolution are both pretty good, but the episode as a whole just felt pretty paint-by-numbers and underwhelming.

Most of the hate for this episode comes from us original watchers, back when atla was airing, Nickelodeon was so incredibly hellbent on only showing this episode, purely because its one of the rare ones that doesn't have an overarching story, where anyone could come in any time and understood it. So you have episodes like the finale of a book, and then afterwards its the 3rd rerun of the great divade this week

There are several Avatar games. There's a handful for each season, across different consoles, and the handheld and console games all play differently. Hell, season 3 has a DS and GBA game and they're both different from each other as well as the consoles.

Did there sick and elderly also have food or did they starve for the day?

Chris Ronald

This is the "worst" episode, which sets the bar pretty high, don'tcha think? It also got a bad reputation because, since it is such a standalone episode. Nickelodeon frequently used it to fill open slots in their broadcast schedule. It got replayed A LOT, and people got sick of it, especially because it wasn't great to begin with. I think it has its moments. FYI, the leader of the Gan Jin was voiced by René Auberjonois, who played Odo the shapeshifter on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. The Gan Jin man who appeared first was voiced by Scott Menville, a.k.a Robin from Teen Titans.

rrrebo

Yeah this episode is famous because it's the worst episode of avitar and it's not even that bad...granted you will forever skip this one on a rewatch but for a first viewing it's ok.

jeremiah deparis

The general reason this episode is considered bad is because of its downplay. We know things about the world of Avatar that are more obscure than a feud between two tribes of weird Earth people. It's unlike the series to not provide an answer or just purposefully leave the results vague. It's even more unlike Aang to give in and lie about someone's culture. Don't get me wrong, Aang does not mind running scams/lying (see: Omashu) but he's super cultural, and values history because of his position in life. This sort of felt like the writers just didn't want to follow through with an idea and wrote that ending to just have something. Considering they poke fun at this episode much later, everyone seems to agree it was a strange ending. A funny one, but strange. Also, there are no actual filler episodes in this entire series. Even this episode isn't really filler, it just lays a foundation for later.

Thine Tiny Equine

in the avatar fandom this ep is seen as the worst episode, even the show makes fun of it at some point, so its nice to see that you guys still liked it

Thijs

Yeah this is the only episode that doesn't really push the plot, and feels like it was entirely written for children. It also didn't help that back in the day networks mainly used filler episodes for reruns, so that new audiences wouldn't be lost in plot. So this episode was played A-LOT.

King Boo

There are no quotes from Micheal or Bryan that resemble it being called bad. Skippable during rewatch is what you are refrencing. It is not an objectivley bad episode. It is however objectively the worst one in the series, they dont mean the same thing.

Racer D. Ratt

This is considered the worst episode of the series, and considering it's still a 7/10 that should tell you what to expect from this show. Fun fact: the creators of the show agree that this is the weakest epidode and even poke a little fun at it later in the series.

Esenjien

61 episodes, and no, it is objectively bad. I love this show to death, but you gotta call out a fault. Even the creators of the show said it was bad and referenced it as completely skippable in the Ember Island Players.

3rd Eye Phreak

This is generally considered to be the worst episode in the series

HansDampf

This is the one episode in the series that pretty much everyone dislikes. And considering the fact it's not even bad, it just does nothing for the plot is impressive in the 50 something episodes in this series.
