Kind of makes you wonder what Akira Toriyama's One Piece would be like.

You are all completely right about DBZ having a bonkers story that even internally doesn't always make sense. There's a lot of retconning done intentionally, but also Toriyama is kind of known for being really bad at remembering details and just went forward with the story needing to get a chapter out a week no matter what, as was the business back in the day and still is today. My point being, there's a lot of inconsistencies, contradictions and questions that come up where it's purely the result of Toriyama forgetting. Hell, an old character from the Dragon Ball series arguably on the same level as some of the other supporting characters like Yamcha was nowhere to be seen and Toriyama admitted that he just forgot she existed.

As for gathering the dragon balls (aside from Bulma being rich, cause she was rich before she met Goku), as everyone but Boom would know, the entire series before dragon ball Z had it’s whole plot line based on Goku and gang finding the dragon balls. However, in DBZ, as the stakes get higher, the ease of retrieving the dragon balls increases to the point where they gloss over it and just say that they got them all since the dragon balls have now become a plot device rather than a goal driving the series. Even if in DBZ it’s easier to find the dragon balls, in the prior series they still had to retrieve it from unwilling people and face other issues getting them like facing the Red Ribbon army or Pilaf and gang. Since these threats are nothing compared to people who can blow up planets, it becomes horribly insignificant and is no longer even addressed.

For some context for Boom, if I recall correctly, training with Popo sent them to an illusionary world where they could fight two now dead saiyans to understand the strength of what they are facing, as the Buzzel and Spraut are actually weaker than Nappa and Vegeta. So getting their asses kicked by someone weaker is a motivation to get good.

Yeah, put me down for wanting you guys to see Dragon Ball. It brings a new appreciation for the story I would say. And hey, then you can do Kai and bring Boom along for the ride there.

Glad I'm not the only one who wants to see you guys react to og Dragon Ball. It's really good and super overlooked in the overall franchise

Just a little addendum to the Hell point, souls that go their won't be there forever like Heaven. They get purified of their evil and get reincarnated as new beings. It's one of the grander things in the lore that's never really been reconned and exceptions to it get called out in the actual series... so far

Now I want y'all to watch the original dragon ball. It's so damn good. I love the characters and the story is actually pretty decent if you binge it. Made me like dragon ball z so much more after I watched dragon ball as a kid.

It’s too bad so many people didn’t watch original dragon ball before z it’s entertaining. Watching the whole series in order is wild because you see this kid grow into an adult who has his own kid and then it’s like oh hey guess what he’s an alien! After being a comedy/adventure series for so long.

"How did he know he became alive?" - you kinda skipped over it with the pausing and starting, but after the wish was made, he noticed his Halo was gone. That's how he knew.
"Hell is a vacation spot" - Well...the afterlife is one of the most retconned part of DB. Actually, there was a BIG DEAL made of the fact that Kami took Gokus physical body in the afterlife (so he wouldn't be just one of these puffs of smoke), and plead with King Yemma to not send Goku to either heaven or hell, but let him basically go behind the scenes and train under King Kai. Later on, Toriyama just...completely dropped the "you're only a puff of smoke in the afterlife" entirely. The Anime even went a third way, and had some people retain their upper bodies only.
"Stockholm syndrome" - Obviously a simplification, but Piccolo was born with the purpose of fulfilling his dads wishes, kill Goku and conquer the world. Instead he grew some appreciation to not only Goku (he fought Kuririn and was impressed), then lost to Goku, but more importantly, was SPARED by him, and now the time with Gohan changed him further. In the Manga, Kami is surprised by the fact that Radditz went through King Yemma. If Piccolo was still a Demon like his father, his victims would roam the earth as spirits, not go to the afterlife.
A cut plotpoint - Team Four Star actually cut down the big problem Goku faced at this point: He took half a year getting to King Kai, and now trained half a year, ready for the Saiyans - but he still needs to get back. While King Kai states, with the training, he won't need that long to get back over Snake Way, he would still need at least a day, missing the Saiyan Attack by some margin. This is entirely missing here. The timeline even seemed to change a bit, as Goku was already training under King Kai, as the others were still training under Popo, suggesting he got there way earlier, and left with, if we believe Kami, some days left until the Saiyans arrive.
Shenrons powers - You can wish for just about anything, but there are some caviats: You can't wish for more wishes, obviously, you can't wish for the same thing twice (meaning, f.e. resurrect the same person twice, you can still wish for A resurrection twice, as long as its not the same person), and Shenron can't affect a person negatively, who is stronger than he - and King Piccolo already destroyed him, so by now this would effect most fighters.
Great reaction otherwise, but maybe go back a few seconds, if you pause, as you are missing some things otherwise.

“I feel it’s breaking laws and I don’t know how” Boom seeing the insanity of dbz normally and how little they change in the abridged is HILARIOUS

I hope you all react to the ‘I’ll Make a Man Out of You’ parody they made for DBZA. It takes place while they’re training for the Saiyans XD
Also the DBZA movies/specials
