I have some shows I'd like to recommend you guys, all of which have overarching stories like Gravity Falls, The Owl House, and Amphibia. Some of these also start off as very episodic and silly, but later transition into the overarching stuff and real shit. I included some basic information for your convenience. Don't let my basic description of the premises deter you due to me keeping them as vague as possible, all these shows are incredibly good!
P.S. These are all animated shows.
Anyway, here they are:
- Star vs the Forces of Evil (4 seasons/77 episodes, 22 minutes per episode divided by 11-minute A and B plots, adventure + fantasy + comedy drama, Disney Channel + DisneyXD. Magical girl comes to Earth from another dimension and other main character has to deal with her shenanigans.)
- Hazbin Hotel (30-minute indie pilot on YouTube, actual show starts in 2023, fantasy + musical + dark comedy, pilot by Vivziepop and her team, actual show in 2023 produced by A24. Hell has a big issue and the main character wants to create a hotel to redeem sinners and send them to Heaven.)
- Helluva Boss (Pilot + season 1 and 2 on YouTube, by the same creator of Hazbin Hotel set in the same universe but with different characters and plot, varying episode lengths between 10 and 23 minutes, fantasy + musical + dark comedy, Vivziepop. Group of imps in Hell that can travel to Earth have a business where sinners can hire them to get revenge on people who are still alive.)
- She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (5 seasons/52 episodes, 24-minute episodes, action + adventure + fantasy + sci-fi, Netflix. Main character finds a sword and learns that what she's been lead to believe may not be the truth.)
- Voltron: Legendary Defender (8 seasons/78 episodes, 23-minute episodes, action + adventure + fantasy + sci-fi + mecha, Netflix. A group of friends training to become astronauts in a futuristic Earth discover something hidden in a mountain, and their journey starts.)
- Infinity Train (4 books/40 episodes, 11-minute episodes, canceled but it's an anthology series so each book is very independent from the others, adventure + mystery + comedy drama, Netflix. Girl runs away from home and enters a train, turns out that train is infinite.)
- Wakfu (3 seasons/65 episodes, 6 specials, 22-25-minute episodes, French show, action + adventure + fantasy + comedy drama, Netflix. Boy unlocks a power, tragedy occurs in his village, he and his new companions go on a journey to find his true family.)
- The Hollow (2 seasons/20 episodes, 24-minute episodes, canceled but still very much worth watching, mystery + adventure + action + sci-fi + comedy drama, Netflix. Three random teens wake up in a room with no windows or doors, with no memories of what happened before they woke up, and have to escape, they have to escape and discover what happened.)
- Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated (2 seasons/52 episodes, 22-minute episodes, mystery + comedy drama, Warner Bros. Animation/Cartoon Network. Honestly, it's Scooby Doo, bunch of mysteries to be solved, but this time there's an overarching mystery that needs to be solved.)

I honestly didn't have high expectations for this show, it didn't really seem interesting to me for some reason (I didn't watch the trailer), but I'm really glad I did because I absolutely LOVE it! Like holy shit, I hope they get a season 2.

Briana

If yall havent already, Sandman might be a thing to check out. Also on netflix. Basically modern world with Gods doing their thing, most episodes are a "story" on their own with an underlying story pulling through the season
