Oh my god with the Azura theories. There was a whole episode in season 2 where these kind of fan theories (including time travel) were brought up to be made fun of. That episode should have been a clear enough sign that there won't be any shenanigans about the Azura author, that it's all meant to be evocative and reminiscent, but not actually a plot-point.

A few things: We did know that Manny was dead, although we didn't know his name, that was the event Luz was avoiding in Reaching out, the episode with Amity competing in the competition to impress her dad. Apparently, Dana lost her own father at a young age, so a lot of the stuff with Luz and her dad is her working through that. I say this with kindness and I love seeing fan theories, and I do NOT think you're an idiot, but I truly think the Azura stuff is just what it says on the tin. The subplot in Any Sport in a Storm was sort of them putting the idea that Azura had any plot importance to bed-- the author is just a plain old human who wrote a fantasy series that Luz hyperfixated on. The important thing about Azura is that Luz' dad passed it on to her-- her love of the book is a coping mechanism for her grief over her dad's death, and a final connection to her father, and that's what makes it compelling. The parallels are more for thematic/visual design stuff, and to compare and contrast Luz' ideal fantasy world with the one she actually found. I think "Villanous Lucy" looking like Luz is just a choice from the show's character designers to show how Luz feels like she betrayed her friends with the Collector, just like she projects her feelings of not wanting to exist and how she "never should have gone" to the Boiling Isles onto the protagonist in her English class. The show just really wanted to drive home how guilty Luz feels in a way the audience would absolutely pick up on. Since you're all caught up, I really recommend looking into the paintings on the walls of Hollow Mind! It tells the story of what happened to Caleb very well while still leaving room to interpret, I think you guys would get a ton out of it! If you look in the closet with the Cosmic Frontier stuff, one of the boxes is labelled "Manny's Cosplay." I think that's why Camila was so frazzled, you'd also be nervous if some kids pulled your dead husband's stuff out of hidden storage. Since Camila was also bullied in high school and "struggled like Luz did," there's also a big possibility that Cosmic Frontiers was a geeky interest for Camila like Azura was for Luz, and might have even been something she and her late husband bonded over, which is both very touching and very sad. Anyway this is the second long-ass comment I've left on your patreon this week, sorry, hope it's not annoying! I really love your commentaries and just love gushing I guess.

We learned in the first episode that giraffes were banished (and now we know why), we do know what happened to Caleb - the portraits in Hollow Mind shows that Philip killed him (there's one of Caleb's body + you can see Philip's reflection in the bloody knife he's holding). Also Evelyn is most likely a Clawthorne ancestor: name is similar to Gwendolyn + Edalyn, bird palismen are a Clawthorne thing (Eda, Lilith, Gwen and Dell all have birds and Dell's is a yellow cardinal) and we learned here that Flapjack was originally Evelyn that she most likely gave to Caleb. And Cosmic Frontiers was Camila's obsession and most likely how she met Manny (maybe at a con? one of the boxes in the closet said Manny's cosplay). Can't wait for the next special!

I do think either she made him for Caleb, or she helped Caleb make him (the way Eda's father, Dell, helped Eda to carve Owlbert?). Anyway -- I hope the guys hear from someone soon that S3ep2 is coming out on Jan 21, 2023. So not TOO long to wait. 3 months.

Oh, and the witches were able to do magic even in the human realm because of the bile sacs attached to their hearts! Also, I think Evelyn is an ancestor of the Clawthornes because Evelyn, Gwendolyn (the mom), Edalyn, coincidence? I think not.
