The other guys may be able to react to Kung Fu Hustle without me. I've seen it about 100 times, it's in my top 5 movies all time.

Oh this was my favorite movie of this year so far, it's very cool to see a reaction where people are actually picking up on the themes.
Something worth mentioning, I think-- you mention that a plane was sucked up at the beginning, but that was just the theory the police came up with, that a plane dumped its cargo. If you go back and listen to what the radio is saying in the beginning before Keith David dies, the radio show discusses the fact that two hikers have been missing for a while, and there's no trace of them. There weren't any plane parts or anything big that got dumped, just keys and coins, small stuff like that... the type of thing two hikers might have had on their person when they went missing.
You guys also said that you didn't feel that bad for the crowd since they were willing to watch a horse die, and seemed confused as to why there were so few people. I think it's worth mentioning that the crowd probably didn't know exactly what they were in for. While Jupe has been sending a horse up every Friday, it's all been rehearsal so far, there are a lot of announcements saying that this is the first actual show with the staff and an audience. Jupe's advertising has been pretty vague, just calling it a "spectacle" with horses, and even he doesn't actually know they're being eaten. He thinks they're being abducted so he is absolutely still doing something scummy by sending them up, but he genuinely seems to think it's a ship with aliens inside it. It being the first show also explains why there's a small audience (there's no word of mouth yet) and why his old co-star is there. (He seems to have genuinely tried to be nice to an old friend by giving her tickets to the premiere of a new attraction.) What he's doing is still absolutely messed up, but he's probably not seeing it as just murdering a horse in front of a crowd, and I don't know that the crowd actually knows they're about to watch a horse die.
Also, I just love that Jupe's trauma begins with a balloon popping, and that the other untamable animal that destroys his life gets destroyed by a balloon of himself popping. He's not a good guy, but he's pitiable, and there's some cosmic catharsis there somewhere, I think, in a version of him kind of getting to vanquish that trauma with the same thing that started it.

This was actually really fun! You guys picked up on a few things I hadn't noticed, like the helmet being shiny and all that. I'd love to see you guys watch more movies/shows like this, in the same vein as Station Eleven or Doctor Sleep.
