Commission I'm Working On.
Added 2023-02-20 07:06:50 +0000 UTCA little glimpse into my working process. This is a fantasy piece about a Queen who, besieged by an army of monsters, holds aloft her magic sword and-- we'll, I've a feeling you know the rest.
I don't often start with thumbnail sketches, but because I knew this page would be very detail heavy, I wanted to get all of my ducks in a row before I started drawing. There is nothing worse than doing a great illustration only to find that you just can't make it work in a comic strip narrative because you've left no room for other panels! So for this page I made sure to plan things properly. Because this works so well whenever I do it, I always tell myself that this is how I'll approach every page I draw from now on, but I never learn!
I'm Inking this at the moment and it's an absolute joy to get lost in the detail. The big problem I'm having is that because this is such a strong opener, I want the resulting TF scene to be killer, and I'm just not satisfied by anything I draw at the moment!

2023-02-20 13:48:37 +0000 UTCAnd you've said you don't do thumbnails? Wild. The density of this page gives me a vibe similar to some of George Perez's Crisis work (let's put every DC character on the page!) Thirdly, any depiction of an artifact triggering a TF works for me!
