Update pag.69

https://pleasurebonbon-next.com/comics/volume/1/page/69/

It's not the first time that mourning has been dealt with in PBB, I remember having talked about the death of Red's father, complete with a funeral scene, however Antonio was very young, so it is more sad, and his reckless gesture will have an influence on Will's growth and personality!

And so it starts a series of chain reactions that will lead our protagonist to run away from home and close the bridges with his family, who in fact currently consider him lost (since he is HIDDEN in Bon Bon, not even they know where he is there, obviously).

Two clarifications on this story, which I wrote many years (in the 90s) ago as I have always told you.

As a writer I like to reveal my inputs to you :)

For the William's family I was partly inspired by Lina Wertmüller's film: Pasqualino Settebellezze.

The film was nominated for four Oscars in 1977 (my year of birth): best director, best foreign language film, best leading actor and best original screenplay; Wertmüller was the first woman in history to be nominated for an Oscar as best director!

The protagonist is one of my 5 favorite Italian actors of all time, as well as my favorite voice actor of all time: Giancarlo Giannini.

Initial plot : Pasqualino Frafuso is the only man in a family made up of seven women , hence the nickname Settebellezze = "seven beauties" (which however he claims derives from the fact that no one can understand how someone as ugly as him has so much success with women XD) that tries to make his way in society by aspiring to honor and respect!

The eldest of the sisters, Concettina , deceived by her boyfriend Totonno with unlikely promises of marriage, ends up working in a brothel: Pasqualino confronts the exploiter, but is humiliated in front of a large audience of prostitutes; he therefore has no choice but to commit an honor crime!

The rest of the story then takes a really different turn... it's a dramatic movie.

The concept of first part stuck with me, so William is surrounded by seven beautiful women: his mother, his grandmother and his 5 sisters, who must protect from any men with bad intentions... and then whatever happens, happens.

I wanted to say this also because when I stumbled upon the animated series The Loud House I thought: "I don't want anyone to think that I was inspired by this" also because there is no trace of honor killing in this series LOL but there is a brother with 10 sisters... it might seem like it.

Second clarification: I have seen many other films like The Godfather, Once Upon a Time in America... and I realized that when we talk about Italians we always talk about the mafia.

Even in the recent Hazbin Hotel reference is made to the origins of Angel Dust as an Italian-American mafia figure.

But I wanted to do something different, and I decided to talk about the theme of honor killings which does not concern the mafia but rather the sphere of duels, in particular those within the family. Crimes against honor are a category of criminal crimes where a person's reputation is attacked. For example, defamation or insult: they do not damage the person concretely, but they damage his reputation in society and therefore in any case cause him serious damage.

It is thought that the person "offended in honor" has the right to defend himself.

Although it is difficult to understand today, the "honor killing" was born as a violent defense of the reputation of a person or a family.

Dueling was used in Europe to obtain "satisfaction", that is, to restore a person's honor and respectability. Throughout the Ancien Régime and beyond, anyone who refused to fight in a duel lost his honor and was covered with "dishonor" (that is, he became "disgraced").

From this we understand why William is like this, he is a character who has undergone this influence and therefore someone who never holds back from fighting and defending his honor, even at the cost of dying, but he is not stupid enough to face three enemies armed with knives, sticks and rifles (as at the beginning of the story!), William can be smart too sometimes XD!

It's of course is still very stupid of him... but on the other hand he is a character with values, which I listed last time.

I thought a character like that would be interesting to pair with the women, and deal with them throughout the story. Also because...something happened with his sisters.

And then, I will explain in the bios why there is an honor killing, as anticipated it is an epilogue of a feud!

I couldn't publish the bios of William's family members before now to avoid spoilers, but they will arrive soon and tell a lot and even more!

.....This was a sad page to read, Vanessa. :'( But I'm grateful you put this in here since we get to know more about William and how his childhood effected how he acted in the present. Thank you for also giving us a lot more details behind the lore, and some more cultural tips too, Vanessa. :') I look forward to seeing what the next page shows us in William's life. <3

Antonio never got back, did he? Was he shot? Did he shoot himself? Was he arrested and sentenced to death? Well, maybe that doesn't matter in the end. But he did go against he grandpa, and that could bring dishonour on his family as well... I suppose Will thought his brother was in the right. As a man who grew up with four sisters and no brothers... Well no, I've never had to do any honour killings. XD You know, a funny thing about honour duels: while someone from a lower class could challange someone from a higher one to a duel, the higher class person could refuse the challenge without risking their honour. Voltaire tried to do challenge a aristocrat once, but they guy refused and then sent his goons on Voltaire for daring to challenge him. So there is some nuance to duels and honor killings, especially when it comes to class. Well then, a lovely and sad page this one. It help you understand why "honour crimes" were abolished eventually.
