Updates!

Since there will be many characters on the next page, I must, for important model sheet issues, first create all the characters in this way, because I need them as a reference, I can't work otherwise. For me it is important to have the final character design model in front of my eyes, before drawing the characters on the pages. Sure, I can't say that I forget how my characters are made, but if I draw them for THE FIRST TIME it mustn't be done directly on a page, but first on a model.

So you too can get a better insight into the character.

This is Caterina, nicknamed Titì (by her husband and her parents), and she is William's mother. She is very good but also fair, she is sensitive and wise.

You'll see the colors later, meanwhile if you want some colors...here are the Christmas updates for all!

This time I also want to give you the Santa throne file, because I worked so hard on it, and it's covered in characters! T_T

So I said to myself that if anyone wants to sit on the throne, she/he's welcome! Use it freely as asset (perhaps leaving the credits, please) for your characters :)

In Italy Santa name is Babbo Natale  and we associate it with the myth of San Nicola.

In our tradition there weren't elves at the beginning, as a child I had never heard of them, the first time I saw elves was in the film Santa Claus: The Movie, with Dudley Moore (1985).

So, little by little, the elves were added and now even Italians use elves sometimes, but most of the time Santa Claus is alone at work! Poor thing! XD

At my mom's house I have a picture of me at 5 years old in the arms of the first Santa Claus I met in my life! XD

If I find it I will share it!

I understand your reasoning to draw a whole new character (especially important ones) on a model sheet first, Vanessa. :) Gives a good idea on what the character as a whole looks like which will help with drawing them in different poses and expressions in the panels of the comic. ^_^ And William's mom is super pretty! :3 She does give that vibe of mother maturity and wisdom. OoO Again this makes me more excited to see these new characters in the next page. >w< Thank you for sharing these Christmas pics, Vanessa! ^o^ Also it was very interesting on the Italian culture didn't know about the fantasy of Santa having elves until the 80s. O.O You're right I do feel bad for Santa working on all those toys by himself (if he didn't have elves to help him). XD Though it's cool the mythos of Santa in Italy was based off of Saint Nicolas. ^-^ And it's cute you have the special pic of you with Santa (for the first time) when you were 5. :D My first time seeing Santa was when I was a baby. XD

So, William dressed as Coca Cola Santa Claus is an anachronistic artwork :) but as I said, in the illustrations I enjoy making scenes with anachronistic clothing :)

Thank you! Elves weren't popular in Italy before the 80s. But not even the character of Santa Claus in the 50s and 60s, my mother saw him for the first time in the 70s. My mother and my grandparents told me that in Rome it was the Befana to bring gifts on Epiphany night. I already told last year that the Befana is a kind of witch who rewards good children with sweets and bad ones with coal. It was Coca Cola that introduced the Santa Claus that we all know but in Italy these American "luxury" things arrived long after the Second World War, when there was our economic boom between the end of the 60s and 80s . For Christmas my mother only received fruit (mandarins) and some candies, toys weren't in the Epiphany's gifts. Epiphany night with gifts for kids is based on the gifts that the Magi bring to baby Jesus on January 6th :)

Hmm. That's an interesting work method you use. How did it come about? As for Caterina, my goodness! She looks like a proper lady if there ever was one :) Wow, looking at the throne close up, the details on it are absolutely beautiful! You didn't have elves when you grew up? Well, while it was before 1870, in Sweden, there was the "Yule goat" the delivered presents, not Santa. But for some reason, Christmas has become ever more homogeneous around the world :)
