Almost done

"Vanessa why are you taking so long to draw page 44?"

Because I'm recreating the Delight Castle Bar, and I will do it well so that I can use it forever as a reference for this comic, so the first time it has to be done and studied with more effort.

The first bar was a small corner ... it looked like a bar in a ... um, "men's cave"? XD You call in this way the furnished basement where men create their shelters to invite friends? XD

I had an uncle ( brother of my grandpa) who lived in a villa and had one, a very small basement set up as a bar where he took refuge with the males of the family at Christmas, to drink alcohol ... not children allowed XD But sometimes my cousins and I went there secretly, to discover this secret place ahah! And there was this wooden bar full of bottles and glasses and a sink. Then we ran away LOL It doesn't look like the ones I collected, it was more modern, from the 70s.

I'm digressing, sorry, but maybe that's why I thought of those dimensions while drawing it many years ago for the first time for the Delight Castle. So I think the first Bar is too small for a luxury place like Delight Castle.

So I'm renovating it, making it longer and more welcoming, with a bartender (Dalila) and two support staff, this time. I am helping myself with old and new references. In fact, looking for references and gathering ideas also takes time.

Here, it's the last thing to finish before showing you the complete page in black and white. Unfortunately the ambient scenes for me are the most difficult and boring.

But then the final result is always very nice, I hope :)

Thank you for sharing us your little family story, Vanessa. :D And with these many references you're showing us, this bar will look super cool. OoO

Take as much time as you please to complete each page. It's well worth the wait to see the level of detail you put into every piece of your work. It's your work, don't settle for less that what makes you happy, and we will appreciate every last detail you include.😁

I like all the detail work you put in, tracking down reference pics for period correct furniture/appliances/food/etc... It makes everything in the comic feel richer.

Thanks Silvador! I added to the post the images that I am using as a reference now, many years ago, when I drew the number 1 of PBB there were not so many photos like them on the internet, the references were very few and difficult to search because the sites that contained these images were rare and difficult to find. Today, however, there are more images and sites like Pinterest with which you can do these searches and give you suggestions! 20 years ago the indexing was small, now instead as soon as you find an interesting image, you can find other similar related ones. So I'm happy to be able to do this upgrade thanks to the progress of the available content! :D

Unfortunately we do not have this term because in Italy it is not a custom to have a men's cave. The houses in Italy, even the villas, have a so-called "sala hobby" ( hobby room ) in which hobbies are not practiced XD Usually it is on the ground floor or under the ground floor but has windows or exits to the outside, in fact it is usually created when the house is sloping ... and it is a kind of living room which is also called "Taverna" a tavern. The whole family enters this room, it's not just for men. In the tavern you can find game tables, such as table football, a TV screen, a mini bar but also a small cellar, even an oven for making pizza ... in short, it is a place for guests and for relaxation, but only Italians with the villa, therefore wealthy, can have it. The only place where Italian men usually take refuge without being followed by women is the XD garage! So I was quite intrigued by what this uncle had, now deceased for years, who was well off. ironically he died very young from a liver problem because he drank and smoked a lot. He was the younger brother of my grandfather, who had had better luck in his job but died 20 years before him for vices ... In Italy in the 70s and 80s men drank and smoked everywhere. Even in movie theaters, and I remember that as a child, at Christmas, I breathed a lot of secondhand smoke. Fortunately, things have changed. My grandfather quit smoking when his younger sister also died of lung cancer at the age of 50! So there is no place, in our culture, where men could drink alcohol and smoke freely by themselves ... because they could do it anywhere, even in front of children, it was normal.

The time you are taking to build and create these rooms and references is paying off handsomely. Each page that comes out is great. I'd rather wait a month for an awesome page than get a page every week that is hastily drawn and not that great. Don't ever stop doing what you are doing, Vanessa. That's exactly what I'm here for!

Man Cave is the term in English. πŸ˜€ Would live to hear what the term is in Italian.
