Fusilli Story

Hello Patrons, I apologize if I have not been quick this month in creating the new pages, and if I have not yet responded to the PMs I have received. But when I disappear ... there is always a serious reason, I don't really take the holidays ... or rather I use them to do other things.

Page 25 is almost over, aI need another day of work and tomorrow I will answer all the PMs but today I want to tell the reason for my absence.

It all started about 5 years ago when a colony of stray cats gathered in the courtyard of my apartment building.
I occasionally joined the volunteers bringing food, my leftovers ... there are photos and videos on my Instagram page of varous occasions.

The cats of this colony are around 10 cats and they are all sterilized but nobody wants to adopt them. In reality during these 5 years cats have changed ... because many died or disappeared. I have cats in my instagram photos that are gone :(

Sterilization is free because of a health insurance if the colony is legally registered in an apartment building, but if a cat is hit by a car or attacked by a dog there is nothing to do ... This winter 2 cats died because they had sought lukewarm shelter in the hot engines of parked cars. And when people turned on the car in the morning ... it happened :(

On January 2nd I had gone to bring the leftovers from the New Year eve to the cats. A young cat limped over to me and climbed into my arms, purring, meowing and bleeding !!!

He had been seriously injured by a ferocious bite, and he didn't want to part with me by begging me to help him!

I can't stand something like that and I brought it home, and he came with me without fear, in fact, as soon as he entered the house he lay on the ground on his stomach allowing me to do everything!

I cleaned and treated him wound and phoned Sabine, a French cat lady neighbor, the first volunteer. She told me we were going to take him to the vet the next morning. She brought me a litter box and I put the kitten in a box on an old sweater in my bathroom, where he slept all night.

The next morning the vet shaved his paw and we saw the horror, it was a bite, infected and full of pus.

The cat has been good all the time. I called it Fusilli because it is a joke, in Italian the purring is called Fusa and Fusilli is a type of pasta, it is a joke similar to "Purrito".
The cat has been good all the time during the medication, but bit crying too, poor little thing... T_T

We spent 100 euros on the doctor's visit and medicines: antibiotics, Betadine, pain reliever, anti inflammatory; Sabine gave me 50 euros.

I treated Fusilli for 15 days in my house, I cleaned his wound every day and gave him medicine. You can see the result in the photos.
I have NEVER had a cat, let alone one injured.

Fusilli is a sweetheart, he doesn't want to go out, he always be stuck to me at all times.
I am very worry in this decision because it is a great responsibility, a cat requires time, attention, education ,assistance , MONEY and I have to learn everything from scratch.

I never had a cat.

Now things get complicated because he needs to stay at home until spring, it's cold outside and he's weak, then he must be sterilized, he's too young now, and then stay at home to recover the surgery.

Why I am doing that.

I tell you this. I will be the shelter of Fusilli until spring and then I don't know what to do because I don't have enough money to be able to adopt it.

Sabine provided me with a cat's bed, a pet carrier, 2 toys and 50 euros. If I manage to reach and exceed my goal I will be able to adopt Fusilli, but now I am distressed at the thought of having to abandon him in the courtyard because ... he could die, or suffer, now he has become accustomed to me and to the house and it would be terrible to abandon him, for him and for me.

I have to look for a person to adopt him, but ... a bond is being created between the two of us.

But now I have to think about work, so here is why I was absent... I saved the life of a foundling and injuried cat.

So this Patreon now is to support me and Fusilli ahah... ( hey, maybe he is a lucky cat as Maneki neko XD He is already lucky himself LOL)!

See you  as soon as possible with the new page and my reply to your pm!

Menawhile...any tip and suggestion to live with a cat is welcome!!! I am so unexperted ... T_T

I have a kitten of my own for about 3 months now and she looks aactually a lot like Fusilli (same pattern, only grey instead of brown). I understand how a cat can be handful. I do hope you can find a way to help him as much as possible (maybe even keep). Otherwise you can see if there's some local orgasation that helps to find homes for cats, like the one I got my kitten from. Best of luck!

Grey 'Greycat' Silvermane

....That was quite the story you told us, Vanessa-san. :'( And I understand your reasoning for taking in Fusilli (especially for at least the Winter season). I personally am not a cat owner so I don't know much about how to raise them. @_@ Plus my knowledge is just for country cats and not city cats. :< However I did find some websites that might be able to help you out, Vanessa. :o I'll link them below: https://www.vetbabble.com/cats/behavior-and-training/basic-cat-training/ https://www.petmd.com/cat/training/evr_ct_how-to-train-a-cat https://pets.webmd.com/cats/guide/kitten-training-tips#1 https://www.thesprucepets.com/cat-behavior-and-training-4162113 There's only one advice I can give that might be helpful to you. :o Cats are commonly carnivores, so it's best (if you can) to feed them raw meat. And if Fusilli needs to eat vegetables, I recommend frozen vegetables, warmed up, and covered with a soft meat spread like Liver pâté. ^_^ Sorry that I can't provide more helpful information to you, Vanessa. @-@ I wish you the best of luck though!

thank you so much for your comment! You have told me many interesting things and also point intelligent questions. Yes they eat pasta ife there is a good RAGU XD ( there is minced meat in the sauce) and pasta is carbohydrate like in the kibbles, but they must not always eat it. Yes out streets are full of cars and road pirates, Italians driving are among the most dangerous drivers in recent times. I have seen driving beautifully in America! Italians run, and are always distracted. I don't think I will let him out, unfortunately many cats are run over ... it would break my heart. Unfortunately I do not have a garden but two balconies, one small and one medium, when it is not so cold (being under antibiotics he has immune defenses on the ground, he also had a little fever) I will let him out, for now he doesn't even think about it, even if he saw them! I am wondering ...... now he sleeps a lot because he is being treated, but then, if he becomes too lively? Especially the night? Yes, I also thought of William because he has black eyes and eyes with a similar mask, but William is an Abyssinian, however he resembles him enough! XD

Vanessa San

Cats eat pasta?! Who knew. He's a beauty isn't he, poor thing. And now you have a real-life model to draw William from! ;) I'm honestly surprised you've never owned a cat before now considering PBB. As far as I'm concerned I've found cats easy pets to have. They look after themselves for the most part and after this initial recuperation he'll be running and climbing all around the apartment (or hopefully doing so outside instead!) I've only had older, female cats who are a lot less lively but the neighbours have a brave youngster who will attack everything but is still a sweetie at heart. I think women worry a lot more about their adoptive furry companions than men do so I can understand your concern. Maybe I was lucky or just not attentive enough but we never took ours to the vet until their end of their lives. I know some people who seem to be there every other week. Hopefully you'll be lucky; he certainly looks very healthy. Must be all that pasta! Assuming you don't need to pay endless vets bills (although only €100 is VERY reasonable indeed) you'll only need to buy him food and I only fed ours dry food bought in bulk so it worked out cheaper. So as I say, I feel with cats it's often a case of how much attention, necessary or excessive, the owner places on their animal combined with a bit of luck. They wash themselves, sleep a lot, go out at night and generally can stand up for themselves and avoid dangers. But then some people never let their cats out of their sight and that creates problems of their own. For example, maybe where you live in Italy the roads are a bit more busy so you would worry about that, I don't know. Incidentally, about those Japanese lucky cats- I knew that in SE Asian countries, the gesture for "come here" had the palm facing the subject (the opposite to how it would be and therefore confusing for us in Britain and other places) but I didn't know that this was also apparently the case in Italy and Spain. Or so Wikipedia English tells me. Interesting stuff.

MagikGimp

Thank you for sharing this lovely story! If I didn't take he would have died for infection. Sabine already has 4 cats in her home, one of whom has FeLV and must be kept separate from the other cats. Thank you for your support and kind words! ♡ Jag is a lucky cat! ♡

Vanessa San

So this is a super similar story to how i got my cat Jag (he had a sore in his ear from a fight, showed up on my porch, I let him in and he never left ♡) I've had him for almost 5 years now and he's been one of the best things ever for me ♡ I'll definitely keep supporting since it's also for him ♡

Neko-Boi

Yes I know, so really I hope to improve with Patreon , with my work for PBB, to be able to keep him with me!

Vanessa San

I hope that you can find someone to adopt him because even if you are forced to abandon him, he will keep wanting and trying to return to you. You will essentially be all he knows, making it very difficult for him to adjust to a knew, independent life, especially so young.
