Defending: Importance of Positioning, Benefits of Auto Tackling, and Using the Running Jockey

In this video, I explain the importance of defensive positioning, the benefits of auto-tackling, and how to use the running jockey in FC 25. One of the key points I make is how powerful auto-tackling can be, even with players who don’t have great tackling stats like Mbappé. By simply positioning yourself correctly and using the running jockey, you can let the game do a lot of the defending for you.

When you defend, it’s essential to use the running jockey (L2 button) to lock onto the ball carrier. This makes your defender face the attacker and gives you a much better chance of winning the ball. If you just sprint at the attacker without jockeying, the game won't lock onto the ball, and you’ll often miss the tackle. Using the jockey properly not only improves your chances of winning the ball but also helps keep your defensive shape intact.

I also emphasize that spamming the tackle button is not the way to defend. Every time you tackle and miss, you’re pulling your defender out of position, which can leave gaps for your opponent to exploit. Positioning is far more important than constantly trying to win the ball. Once your positioning is solid, you can start incorporating more tackles, but it’s crucial to master positioning first.

Another point I cover is the danger of overusing teammate contain (R1). While it's a useful tool, relying on it too much can drag your defenders out of position and create gaps in your defensive line. This is why I recommend using it cautiously, especially with your midfielders and not your backline.

Finally, I stress the importance of keeping your defensive line intact. Running out of position with your center-backs, or overusing teammate contain, can create huge spaces for your opponent to exploit. By maintaining your shape and using AI mechanics like auto-tackling and running jockey, you can defend more effectively without taking unnecessary risks.
