They've seen him briefly in a single shot of The Clone Wars. That's it.

You already have met Kanan as Youngling multiple times now in other shows, you just haven't realised it

Dylan Allardice

I quite loved the First canon thrawn book and I think it works really well as a standalone showing his rise through the empire. I havent liked any of the other Thrawn books. They just felt too unfocused.

Kanan’s backstory is really that simple and was explained in the season 1 finale and his last name is just Dume not Doom he just changed it after Jedi’s were being hunted

enter grand admiral thrown one of the best antagonists.. also feel like you missed a big clue at the end of episode 3 when maul goes back to his ship and says 'he lives"

In terms of story I‘m with you. The original Thrawn tirlogy is more interesting in that regards. (To be fair, it‘s purpose was to continue the main story after episode 6 and not be the side story of a spin off-show.) In terms of character, I like Thrawn the most in the first canon book.

So Ezra is a little older here, it's about 6 months after the S2 Finale, can tell he's matured a decent bit but still struggling with some things.

Christopher Struthers

I really appreciated how Filoni brought Timothy Zahn onboard when they started writing for Season 3 and made sure he was involved so Thrawn is truly himself and consistent with the books. This kind of care goes a long way with fans and shows that they actually try and do the best they can to be faithful to the source material even tho they are not considered canon anymore. ( I couldn't care less what Disney considers canon btw lol )

The Bendu is voiced by Tom Baker, the 4th Doctor from Doctor Who

Uh Holden there someone else on Tatooine that maul may like to pay a visit to...

Kanan Jarrus was a padawan known as Caleb Dume during the clone wars. he was trained by a jedi named Deppa Billaba who was trained by Mace Windu. Caleb changed his name to Kanan after Order 66. He survived because his master told him to run when it happened.

I'd say the original Thrawn trilogy is the best read. The canon series is ok just not as fun.

NovelDefender

THRAWN: So Thrawn was introduced in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn which is credited for starting the Extended universe of novels, comics and video games. Heir to the Empire was followed by Dark Forces Rising in 1992, and finally The Last Commando in 1993 all set within the 5-7 years after Return of the Jedi so pretty much the same timeframe as The Mandalorian. These novels together were known as "The Thrawn Trilogy" a massive hit as Return of the Jedi released over 8 years ago so people were dying for Star Wars content hoping to see what happens next. People jumped at the chance to read about what happened after the movies, seeing Luke Skywalker as a true Jedi Master, Leia and Hans relationship, The New Republic, and this new evil known as Grand Admiral Thrawn who commanded a splinter group of Imperials in a time when Imperial warlords and splinter factions of the Empire were battling for power just like we see in The Mandalorian. Makes us wonder if Dave and Jon are pulling heavily from the Thrawn Trilogy setting up Thrawn as the main villain in Mandalorian and Ahsoka. Thrawn then appeared in the 1994 space flight simulator video game Star Wars: TIE Fighter and as a recruitable character for The Empire in the 1998 strategy computer game Star Wars: Rebellion. And finally he was apart of the Forces of Corruption expansion pack for the 2006 real-time strategy game Star Wars: Empire at War. Should note that the Thrawn Triolgy of Novels are no longer canon but in 2017 Timothy Zahn the original author released a new canon book simply called "Thrawn". This was set in the early days of the Empire and follows his rise throughout the ranks of the Empire, an origin story in a way. There's also a comic adaptation that's alot shorter along with some really good Youtube videos that showcase the comic mixed with the audio creating a series of audio comics. Grand Admiral Thrawn is voiced by actor Lars Mikkelsen the brother of Mads Mikkelsen who of course played Galen Walton Erso in Rogue One. Thrawn was last mentioned in Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5 "The Jedi" with rumours of the character playing a big part in the Ahsoka show where he rumoured to be played by Lars Mikkelsen his voice actor in Rebels. Lars Mikkelsen looks the part already and is an amazing actor who it's only natural that they'd cast him as live action Thrawn not to mention how amazing his voice work is as the character. RECLAIM STATION: So this is pretty much showing us how the Rebellion acquired the Y Wings we see in the origin movies such as gold squadron in A New Hope and Rogue One. The rebels stripped the outer armour plating off the back of the Y Wings to increase speed revealing the underneath body which gives them it's iconic used look kind of like a hot rod. While in Clone Wars we see the Y Wings fully armoured along with a back gunner seat.

Enter Thrawn 💙 🤍 One of my favorite characters in the entire SW Universe

AC5555

Depends on which Thrawn novels. There are like 11 out now. 6 aren‘t canon and the others probably won‘t get into consideration regarding the shows …

Darth Mornabin

Kaleb dume is kanan's birth name he changed it after order 66. The s4 episodes jedi night and dume kind of tie into this and are some of the best sw episodes in any series

James Fletcher

I’d recommend reading the thrawn novals they’re not strictly canon anymore but gives you an insight into him and why these and Asoka will be so good

Chris Lillie

What a great batch of episodes. This season (as well as the fourth one) definitely feel more mature in tone and narrative to me. There are still some, shall I say, less good episodes, but there are fewer of them and they still contribute to the overall story. I'm excited to see what you guys think of this season as there is, in my opinion, some really great storylines to be seen. Also, Caleb Dume is just Kanan's real name. I won't say more as I don't remember if the show goes into it or not. Anyways, great reaction as always.

Jacob Ember

That Twin Suns line got me hyped.

Povenmire

Don’t have time to watch rn but I will asap. Can’t wait to see what you guys think of Thrawn!
