PLEASE NOTE: In some of the clips, you will see when I am defending and I execute a Standing Tackle, the controller appears to be pressing [A on XBOX] and [X on PS4]. This is however a VISUAL GLITCH, the actual combination I am pressing for a Standing Tackle is [B for XBOX] or [Circle for PS4]. This is ONLY for the situation where I am performing a standing tackle, the rest of the controls are same as yours (classic), so its just whenever you see me DEFENDING and you see me perform a Standing Tackle, I am actually pressing B/Circle instead of A/X.
So many of you have been direct messaging me inquiring about some gameplay so I found a gameplay example for you. I am using a basic 10k gold team, 4231 formation with LB/RB + CDMs on stay back while attacking, tactics all on balanced/balanced with 5 across all width/depth/player in-box.
The reason why I want show you this footage in particular is that I wanted to show you that you can still win playing basic football and nothing too elaborate/intricate in terms of skill or attacking strategies. This is the full game so you are going to see some basic attacking scenarios even with very cheap teams, which will act as a base like you have done so far in defending.
While it is the full game, I want you to concentrate on the defending, remember there is no correct or wrong way of defending if you win the ball at the end of the day, but you will see everything you learnt so far! I also do not speak too much over this clip as I want you to watch it from a neutral perspective without me influencing your thinking via my commentary, so I only speak and explain in the first few minutes. If you want sometimes you can pause the video at any point and maybe slow it down using the youtube controls (settings cog) and potentially pause the clip at a defensive situation and think what would you do?
I want you to focus on the CDMs on how I cut the passing lanes and defend with them first before using my defenders, I only use my defenders in the absolute worse case scenario, remember you should always use your CDMs to protect and defend your back 4, never break your back 4 out of position unless you absolutely have to, because if you do you will create gaps in your defence.
You are also going to see when I do not have the ball I always choose the player closest to the ball to defend, as a general rule of them you want to defend with your attacking players first those you can be aggressive with, then with your CAMs and then finally with your CDMs and only if you have to choose your back four. We have not got into this yet, as I first want you to understand the learn to defend only with CDMs first as a basic and then go onto more elaborate and complicated defending methods!
