A lot of directors want to take a crack at making a Bond movie. Steven Spielberg loved the Bond movies growing up and wanted to make one once his director career was starting to take off. Fortunately, when Steven Spielberg couldn't get a Bond gig, his friend/rival George Lucas offered up Indiana Jones as a better James Bond alternative. It's no coincidence that the father of Indiana Jones was the OG Bond Sean Connery. Christopher Nolan is also a fan of the Bond franchise, and you can find Bond influences all over his work. As an aside, I find it interesting that during the opening credits, Judi Dench's credit as M appears right before a zoom in on a gravestone. Foreshadowing or coincidence?
